Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives at this B&B. My husband have stayed at several B&Bs in England and a few here in the US. The Pitney house was definitely below average and I would go so far as to say they are just scraping by.
The positive things were: there were antiques in the room, the pitney house did have some nice aspects (lovely floors and ceiling beams), there was a dehumidifier in the room so we could get white noise during the evening for sleeping, it was pretty clean and the roof didn't leak (in otherwords everything was functional).
The negative things were: pillowcases did not fit pillows, the bed sloped in the middle and the bed was terribly squeaky, the bathtub was uneven and jiggled (found yourself surfing in the middle of your shower), bathtub was hard to get in and out of, bathtub water valve controls were tricky to operate and if you were not careful, you scalded yourself, the bed comforter looked worn, the street was loud at times.
The breakfast was the worst breakfast I have ever had at a B&B. (Holiday Inn Express does a better job!) Breakfast was juice, cinnamon coffee, cinnamon-sugar muffin and cinnamon french toast with syrup and a fruit cup. Clearly, a low effort breakfast for the host. Everything had cinnamon in it, including the coffee, and was loaded with sugar. Good thing that neither of us were diabetics. Truly, I am sorry that I chose this place to stay. A real disappointment.
