My husband and I recently spent three days in Vina del Mar while traveling in Chile. We didn't have an itinerary prior to our arrival in South America, and therefore didn't reserve lodging until actually arriving in each city we visited. After being delivered by cab to a hotel (I use this term loosely) which I can only describe as passable, we ventured out--determined to find a comfortable room for the remainder of our stay. Stopping by a four-star hotel (for those wanting to spend a few extra bucks, the hotel was Hotel San Martin) to simply get an idea of rates, we were given the name of Hotel Vancouver by the kind woman at the front desk. We immediately trekked the five blocks to Hotel Vancouver and wanted to stay, forfeiting our belongings and $40USD to the flea trap we were bound to for one excrutiating night.
Mario, the owner of Hotel Vancouver, was like a second father to us. His hotel is extremely clean, the bathrooms are large and airy, beds very comfortable and clean. Breakfast is included as is free internet service. And, the location is fabulous! His staff, while they didn't speak English, were also wonderful. I can't say enough about Hotel Vancouver: a definite must for those wanting a clean, safe and welcoming hotel in Vina. (Price for private bath, matrimonial was $42USD/night.)
