My teenage son and I spent 8 days in a one bedroom apartment at the Savoy Crest Apartments in February 2012.
We booked through the hotel's own website and our request for a no smoking apartment with twin beds was granted . We arrived late evening. The reception staff were expecting us and gave us a warm welcome . The complimentary drink of fresh fruit juice was appreciated after a long journey.
Our third floor apartment, number 305, exceeded expectations. The lounge/dining room was spacious with a large flat screen TV and dvd player; my son seemed reasonably impressed with the choice of TV channels. The bedroom was also large with a smaller flat screen TV, a free wired internet connection point, (which we did not use as we had not brought a pc), plenty of storage, a free safe deposit box and ensuite bathroom stocked with reasonable selection of toiletries. The separate large kitchen was a surprise. We had the use of two hotplates, a big fridge/freezer, an electric kettle with tea and coffee provided, microwave oven, washing machine/drier, iron and ironing board, and a very useful clothes airer. Another surprise was a second toilet. The apartment was well maintained and furnished to a high standard. Daily housekeeping ensured it remained spotlessly clean.
Public facilities are provided on the ground and top floors. On the ground floor, there is a coffee shop next to reception. The breakfast buffet provided a good start to the day. The selection of Indian and European food varied daily but was consistently good. A chef fried eggs and made omelettes to guests' individual requirements and waiters were attentive in serving/topping up tea and coffee. The coffee shop also provides an all affordable day menu; it is possible to have a reasonable meal with a non alcoholic drink for around 40 dirhams. Other ground floor facilities included computers for public use, cost 10 dirhams an hour, and a snooker table.
On the top (8th floor), there is a gym, which we did not use, and separate male and female changing rooms complete with sauna and steam rooms. There is a lovely roof top swimming pool, (which was heated in February), a small childrens' pool and sunbeds. Pool towels are provided.
On Valentine's Day, reception staff presented me, (and other female guests), with a red rose and took a photograph. A couple of days later, I checked my e-mails and found the photo in my inbox. I was then able to e-mail it onto my husband and father. A lovely gesture!
My main reason for choosing the Savoy Crest was that I wanted an apartment within easy walking distance of a Metro station and a supermarket. I was not concerned about views - the Savoy Crest overlooks other apartments in a neighbourhood somewhat lacking in greenery. However it is about 7 minutes walk to two Metro stations. Khalid Bin Al Whaleed is an interchange station between the red and green lines. Al Fahidi is on the green line with a Spinneys supermarket on the way. This means that large parts of Dubai are easily accessible at very reasonable cost and we were able to self cater with ease when we did not want to go out for a meal.
In conclusion; if you are not on a 5 star hotel budget, the Savoy Crest offers a very comfortable, convenient and quiet base within a busy city. The staff are friendly and welcoming with high customer service standards. On my return I got an e-mail saying they were missing me already! I wished I could have stayed longer!
