“Poor customer service”

after having Kempinsky recommended from family we decided to book 5 days in march 2012 - after hopefully having 10 wonderful days at Hilton by the beach. We made a reservation for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids aged 1 + almost 4). Beforehand we checked that it was ok to book a room with kids under 6 years of age without any extra costs, so our agency booked a superior room for us all, and send us a written confirmation that everything was fine and paid for. Suddenly after the payment had gone through we were told by our agency that Kempinsky wanted 50% extra cost in order for us to be allowed to stay 2 adults and 2 small children in the superiorroom - we needed to book a suite. This has never been an issue for us before when staying in Dubai (or any other city in fact). Neither Kempinsky nor Expedia are willing to compensate for the mistake made, eventhough we have all confirmations in writing stating that the kids are allowed in the superior room. So now 10 days before departure we are left with a hustle to get back our money and hopefully get Hilton to help us find a nice hotel in Dubai city with a litte more customer flair. I find it sad that we cannot recommed this hotel eventhough our family has stayed there many times. But unfortunalely I just find the situation a bit too rude and unhelpfull. A discussion with a hotel beforehand, is never a good start of a nice family vacation :).

Dear PF2920,

Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates is always happy to accommodate young children below the age of 6 in a Grand Deluxe Room and above categories at no extra cost, however as per the DTCM (Dubai Tourism board) regulation with regard to the maximum number of guests per room, there is a restriction on the number of children who can be accommodated. We do apologise for the inconvenience and misunderstanding between you and the travel agency that this has caused you.

As a valued guest, I would like to discuss this matter personally with you. Please contact me directly on 00971 4 409 5024 or alejandro.bernabe@kempinski.com referring to this review in the email title.

Sincerely,

“Convenient location to the malls”

Stayed at this hotel when breaking our journey from Europe to Singapore in August 2011. I have to say that Dubai is a good place to break the flight.
The hotel reception was very grand and breathtaking. The doormen and bell hop were quick to their job. Check in was relatively easy and their check in staffed by a Cauasian.
The room we stayed in faced the pool and it was very spacious and modern. The bathroom was also very spacious with a standing shower and bathtub. Had a mini sitting area with a comfy sofa and telly that swivels to the sofa or to the bed. And I would like to say I love the modern looking chandelier as well.
Breakfast was ok and service at the cafe was attentive. The pool looked very tropical and big enough for a good workout but too bad didn't had a chance to use it.
Made use of the concierge and was staffed by a Filipino and he was very helpful.
Good location of the hotel as it was connected to the Kempinski Mall. It also meant I spent good money and time at the shopping mall! The weather was scorching outside even by my Equator standards.
I would stay here again as I can shop and dine easily. BUT of course, it comes at a price too!

“Shiny pretty, not all that”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Lovely reception. Staff was very pleasant and efficient. After walking a considerable distance down a long dark corridor to our room, we were surprised to enter a very small room. Very small. Overall, it was comfortable. The bed was nice. The location of this hotel is outstanding. We would stay here again. Regarding the internet, it was outrageously expensive charge. We understand that internet is not free, and that the UAE has many regulations on internet. However, the charge was exorbitant. Not sure if we would stay here again because it was very expensive for not that much in return. They are definitely capitalizing on the Kempinski name.

“Disappointed , staff has to be more friendly and customer oriented”

I have been travelling around the world and i have seen alot of wonderfull hotels and their caring management about the guest who are paying alot of money to get an impression that they are home away from home. Well i will have to share my visit this time to Kempinski hotel mall of the emirates UAE. I have arrived in the hotel in the afternoon and door man has welcomed me in the hotel which was wonderful impact to a five star property. I reached reception with wonderful first impression from the door man and sudden my expectation went from 100 to ZERO when i have been welcomed by lady receptionist i believe ANNE . she has said give your passport to find reservation with NO SMILE AT FACE and bit rude in behavior. She said you have booked room through booking.com and its one of the smaller room and the cheap room in the hotel if you want to have bigger room you have to pay 300 UAE money more otherwise you will have to walk away from th elevator till the end of the coridoor... My question is have hotel mentioned on booking.com that they have the worst room out of the world and please do not book that room ??? Room is having worst view and it will be so far may be 1 KM ??? then we would understand that we should go to an other hotel.. I am surprised with the attitude showed by the staff without thinking that being guest we are the people who are paying their salary. I have request the receptionist to contact her manager if manager can do some thing since i have physical problem and i cant walk away she replied manager is busy and you have to wait in the lobby otherwise go to the room and manager will call you back. which was never happend i have stayed 5 freeking nights in hotel no one has called and that is the carless managers . She has only showed me the way where to go and i was in room 545. no one came to me to let me know as its five star hotel and she took my credit card to block some amount without looking at me?????. i am sure hotel management has to really train their staff how to deal and some time they realy need to be flexible. They just do care about money ? If i would have paid more amount then for sure they will give me room near to the elevator ?? I have went to there breakfast resturant i was impressed by the food excelent food in the resturant but the place was so busy which is understandable. I will say please book bigger room or if any one is planing to go please keep extra money since hotel has worst rooms also and receptionist will not be happy if you will not pay extra money. I really wanted to know why it happend is it normal ??? At the end thanks to social websites that at least we have some way to take out our frustration.

Room Tip: More money not the smaller room

“Fantastic hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Very impressive, high level of service, but that's what I'd expect from a hotel in this category. The reason why I think it doesn't deserve the top rating is that a few details were just not right: One lamp needed repairing, a cupboard didn't close properly, little things that didn't necessarily bother me, but would have made the difference. I would certainly return.
