Stayed here for a week in March 2012. Ten minute taxi ride form the airport. Staff extremely polite and friendly.Large pool - absolutely no problems in getting sunbeds at any time of day - the pool attendants do a great job. Always seemed to be four or five lifeguards on duty too. You do pay for this service in the form of expensive poolside drinks and food though. Tip: there is a convenience store in the lobby of the next door Hyatt Residences. A can of Coke there is 1.5 Dirhams (about 25 UK pence) !
Breakfast is a fantastic buffet. You sometimes have to queue at peak times.
Free wi-fi in the Panini Cafe if you order something (just a coffee is fine).
The Dubai Mall (largest in the world) and the Burj Khalifa (tallest building in the world) are just a ten minute taxi ride away. Taxis are really cheap - that trip is around 20 Dirhams (about £3.50). There are lots of restaurants at the Mall by the waterside - better value than eating in the hotel, and you get a free fountain/light show as well.
If you want to experience the new Metro, the local station is a ten minute walk away. The Metro is clean and reliable. A one-way trip across two zones (e.g. to Dubai Marina) is 6.5 Dirhams (just over 1 UK pound). It's very popular, so don't expect to get a seat unless you book the Gold fare, which allows you into the one carriage with leather seats etc - at double the price.
Overall the hotel is large and luxurious, and I'd have no hesitation in recommending it. It is considerably lower cost than the beach hotels too.
Upgrade to a "Creek" room - low cost option, well worth it.
