I was fortunate enough on my last visit to Al Maha to be invited to participate in the first ever Al Maha Master Chef competition. If you know Al Maha (or even if you do not!), the food is outrageously fantastic and presented almost so that you just want to look at it...almost!
Chef David Miras once again demonstrated his culinary creativity and innovation, this time not so much with food but with an idea for his staff! He set up the competition so that each chef could create a dish of his/her own (YES! There is a lady in the ktichen at Maha!), either a dessert or main dish. Well........"amazing" is all I can say! There was such a variety of dishes and a couple, according to general manager Mr. Arne, will be on the menu - that's how great they were. The winning dish was a pumpkin and prawn dossah with a tomato base dipping sauce - unbelieveably great! Second place was a chocolate hazelnut dessert enhanced with gold-plated white chocolate. Only at Al Maha have I ever been served gold to eat! WOW! My favorite dessert was the date pudding cake with cardamom ice cream! It was unusual and delicious, and delicately local! A MUST for the menu - blends in so well with the lovely antiques that accentuate the culture. But there were so many delicious things! Where else are guests privvy to chef experiments? And, where else does the head chef give such culinary freedom to create? ANd they did this during their lunch service! I LOVE this place. Thanks to the Al Maha GM, Mr. Arne, Chef David and the entire kitchen staff for such an unusual guest experience! I'll be back! :-)
