“Your own Dubai heritage tour . . .”
Finding historic buildings in Dubai can prove quite a challenge owing to the relentless modernization the Emirate has succumbed to over the past few decades. Amidst the city's glistening towers and sweltering construction sites, the veritable Le Meridien stands out as a beacon of times gone by. This is brought home to the traveler in ways both good and bad. The good derives primarily from the fabulously unique low-level layout of the hotel, which forces one to navigate a seemingly unending labyrinth of hallways before arriving at one's room. The bad is that some of the rooms are, simply enough, showing their age. In places, the hotel just feels old and when old feels musty, that ain't such a good thing. On the plus side, the check-out is as efficient as I've experienced elsewhere and the location could scarcely be better if you're worried about missing a flight out of Terminal 1 or are simply looking for the nearest place to crash after a late night arrival into said facility. In my most recent stay, though, I didn't feel that the place offered the same value that it did a few years ago. The generous night-caps once served have since been discontinued and, as a result of a few other vague changes, some of the charm seem to have been lost. For under USD200, it's still a good deal (in Dubai, land of the insane hotel prices). For over that, I'd be inclined to look elsewhere.
