“the only reliable hot showers at 4 accommodations in l.p.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2007

at $15 a night this guest house was the only accommodation i used in luang prabang that had constantly available hot water shower.it was also very basic but located near the mekong river ,opposite the couleur french restaurant and 15 metres from the entrance to the night market.a 100 meter walk brought you to the main shopping street.luang prabang has two major problems to overcome in its race towards being the prime tourist destination in laos...HYGIENE and lack of HOT water, the latter due to use of what appears to be cheap chinese electrical wall heaters and even cheaper thinner chinese electrical cabling that makes their 220v system ineffective.i suspect the namsok has thicker electrical cabling...the namsok is also near the boat wharf where, due to lack of landing facilities and the steep unassisted climb ,many serious accidents have occured requiring medical evacuation to bangkok...in regards to food hygiene, joma cafe, the big tree cafe on the riverfront, les elephants (expensive) the scandanavian bakery and the aforementioned french restaurant appear to be the exceptions to the generally appaling food concepts in luang prabang....there is also a good dvd store in walkman village in center of shops ($2)

“Friendly staff, clean and great location”

We arrived in Luang Prabang after a tiring 2-day boat ride and wanted somewhere clean to stay. We searched quite a bit for a decent and cheap place. We came across a hell hole called Heritage guest house, which was charging $12 per night depending on whether you were willing to pay the guy in charge some money under the table. We were very lucky not to have stayed there, and walked on. Someone on the street had mentioned a nice place opposite from a Nisha indian restaurant. So we walked on, and stumbled upon this place.

We immediately agreed to stay there for $14 with hot water and excellent location. The night market is right outside the guesthouse, the main street is 2 minutes walk and the buddhists monks walk right outside in the mornings and not too far from the palace. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome.

I would definitely recommend staying here.

“Clean Guesthouse In An Excellent Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2007

There are 3 properties that come under this name, Nam Sok (NS) 1, 2 and 3. NS1 and NS3 are just round the corner from the main street, excellent location, night market is just out on the front door. NS2 is by the Mekong, still only a short walk to the main street.

We stayed at NS3, very clean room, comfortable bed, USD10 for a double room, USD15 during peak season. No TV here but available at NS1. Room was cleaned daily with supply of 2 bottles of mineral water, very friendly staff. Pick-up from airport is USD5.

A family home was under construction infront of the guesthouse when we were there, it was noisy during the day. Otherwise, it's a quiet area. There are two restaurants, Nisha just opposite the guesthouse and Mixay right next door. L'Elephant and Tamarind is only 5 minutes walk away. Blue Brother Mouse office is only a few feet down the road,

NS1 and NS3 come under the same website and use the same email address, probably same with NS2. They are own by the same family, so do state your preference of property if it matters.

“Good location but still overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2007

We stayed there last January 2007 for 4 nights in Luang Prabang. The guest house s location is convenient and perfect right in the centre of the historic town. However, as we booked by email the night before our arrival, we were charged US$24 a night which is overpriced for what it was, although I guess we had one of the best rooms of the guesthouse. Although the room was clean, there were a lot of small details which made the stay not so comfortable: the blanket was too short for the bed (it's very cold at night in Luang Prabang in January!), the room was quite noisy because it is surrounded by other guest houses with noisy people, the bathroom was also very noisy (at night, we heard every water noise from next door's bathroom...) and there were problems with the pipes, and finally, the hot water dit not function very well.. the water was warm but more cold than warm... And there were no place to put/hang the clothes anywhere in the room or the bathroom, as if the room was built for short term stay (one night stay) only.
Although the staff was friendly, I think the room did not deserve a US$24 rate. US$10-15 is OK for that, but not 24.

This guesthouse is between the main street and the Mekong, a great location for walking to both. Resturants nearby and a fast internet cafe across the street. Prices start at $15. for one or two. Large rooms, nice staff tho not overly friendly.
