Where to begin ? first impressions, one of dissapointment, not so much withn the hotel but the area of the Marina, the whole area is so run down and delapitated, not at all as expected. We were approached by security on our arrival warning us of car crime, not to leave anything in our car and to keep our doors locked when out driving, not a very good start to our weekend break in Constanta, next came check in, I booked and paid for two seaview rooms overlooking the Marina, we were given really small rooms No 330 & 303 the later being a single room, and not even a balcony, we did not have a Marina view only a glimpse of the sea and a huge derelict or unfinished concrete shell great !!! so back to reception, where I was quoted an extra 88 euro's for an upgrade,I said no way as I had paid for a Marina view! we were then told to come back later by the receptioist who would speak to the Manager, we went for meal at the Marina Restaurant which was very pleasant, we had just driven 250 km from Bucharest and just wanted to relax. On our return to the hotel we were given room No 127 which was a huge room with two amall juliet balcony's and a perfect view of the Marina, the view we had expected.the next problem was the Aircon it was on but didn't work and the room was uhbearably hot and seemed to get even hotter through the night, not that it was possible to sleep on the hardest and most uncomfortable bed I have ever tried to sleep in,the bath room was the size of a cupboard, tiny hand basin & and a small open shower cubicle with no curtain or door, water everywhere!! I can honestly say the shower room is superior on a Brittany cross channel Ferry. The buffet breakfast was good and the staff friendly. for the best selection go to breakfast early, we had breakfast on the terrace which was lovely tranquil with a perfect view over the Marina, the hotel itself does grow on you and has pleasant sitting area's I actually liked the hotel as it has charactor and must have been quite a place in the 1930's but the Room comfort at present is Nil, a new bed and working aircon would be great , oh couldn't leave windows open because of mossey's got 10 bites during my visit, someone had reccommended the Mamami area to us, we did drive to this area, what a tacky tacky place, hotels on the lakeside looked preferrable,it has a mono rail which passes right over the tops of some hotels and operates from 10am to 11.00pm daily. so in conclusion Hotel could be rectified but the old marina area of Constanta needs to win the euro millions many times to renovate its old buildings. I could not reccommend the Palace to friends because of the disrepair of the area.
