front desk very variable, mostly rude and off handish, had 2 separate reservations which they wouldnt link, also wouldnt give back passport til i paid, i offered to pay up front as is the custom in such soviet hotels but they refused, and kept passport anyway they also called me at midnight to pay for second reservation because the power was being cut off the day after

rooms quite good value, big, airy and clean with ok bed, almost none have internet though

location close to beach and cafes, but beach is poor, basically you are better off staying at golden sands and not in the town

breakfast very poor, i elected to just go to nearby cafes after second day

top floor panorama piano bar is a rip off, an old overweight roxette look alike murdering the keyboard, also there are different admission fees for later in the evening but what they dont tell u is that if u go there early and are still in there at the expensive entry time they just add it to your bill so you always end up paying the full rate

tv included a free porn channel which was one of the few pluses of the place

It's such a shame that this hotel has a prime position because it is completly wasted by sub-standard facilities and the rudest staff I have ever come across. I understand that Bulgarians may have a different 'way' to other cultures but the way my friends and I were spoken to by the receptionist was completly disgusting! I had reserved a corner sea view room that was refurbished (beacuse siome still have the communist chic look). This is not what I got, i didnt even get a sea view. And the staff treated me like dirt when I questioned this. To get the receptionist to look up at the desk I stood there for a few minutes, until finally I said, 'excuse me' (she knew i was there). And the thing that topped it off, was when she threw our passports at us when we left.
Start to finish, terrible. And its not even very cheap now. I have stayed here a few times prior to this occassion, and those times it wasn't great either, but at least it was cheap then. God knows how this place is still going?

A OK old communist hotel in the main pedestrian street in beautiful Varna. Very large room, I prefer smaller rooms to make it more cosy. Not so nice bed. Bathroom ok. Large restaurant on top flor was totaly empty, only staff there. Even the bar had no people.

We arrived on the morning train and were told we would have to wait until 1230 to get a room. Once room was available, when we got to it--it was dirty--had not been cleaned. Told the receptionist who did not believe us and sent a guard up to the room tho check. Only then did they give another room. Food at restaruant is just ok nothing great location is ok . Simply had such a bad time getting staff to help that I could not recommend the place to anyone.
