We stayed at the Funimation for 2 nights as we were in Zadar for the weekend. Got absolute bargain flights on Ryanair at a cost of £17.95 per return ticket. Before choosing the Funimation, we explored all other options, but decided that all-inclusive would be best since we were travelling with a 3 year old. We pre-booked a taxi from the airport with Lulic Taxi. This cost 150kn…about £18. Upon arrival, the taxi was in the arrivals area waiting patiently. The drive to the Funimation took about 15 mins.
Upon entry, the hotel’s lobby has the wow factor. Check-in was swift. We were given our all inclusive wristbands, and a sheet detailing breakfast, lunch, dinner times etc. We had reserved a mini-family room, and were given one which faced the courtyard. The size of the room was ample. However, the décor of the room was somewhat dated. Old styled TV and uncomfortable pillows…however these shouldn’t affect your holiday too much. There’s a mini fridge, but there are no coffee and tea facilities. There is no kettle for making tea in case you’re travelling with a young child. However, I think the reception provides a ‘baby pack’ which you can rent for a price. Also, you’re provided with beach slippers and bath robes. Please be advised that if you use these bathrobes, you’ll be charged about £1.50 (cleaning fee) for the pleasure. My main issue with the room was access to the balcony. There was an issue with the balcony door. It couldn’t be opened. It appeared as if someone had broken the other side of the balcony door, and that side had been boarded up. Clearly this room should not have been made available to guests.
The hotel’s main restaurant was buffet styled. The selection was ample but may not be to everyone’s palette. On the first night, they had rice with cucumber. Maybe it’s a Med dish. It’s safe to say that a lot of the food on offer was definitely geared towards a certain nationality. However, as mentioned by others…the pizzas are absolutely delicious – definitely try these. The food got progressively better as the days went by. The drinks which were offered weren’t very good. The orange juice was drinkable but the apple juice was absolutely awful. Additionally, the wines were either too watered down, or you just couldn’t manage to drink it. The desserts however were very tasty, always with a wide selection.
The hotel’s outside pool wasn’t heated, and it remained empty daily. There was also a large water slide which again went unused. There is a kids play area which was very nice. My 3 year old enjoyed playing there. There were slides, swings, see-saws, and a mini playhouse. Enough to keep kids occupied and content! Borik beach consists of pebbles. There’s no sand, so please don’t go with the expectation of a beautiful sandy beach.
The spa at the Funimation is gorgeous. The entire layout is geared towards extreme relaxation. I had one treatment done which was eyebrow shaping. The price was about £5. Free use of the sauna etc is included in your all inclusive price.
There’s a supermarket located directly across the street should you feel the need to stock up. The attitude of the ladies at the checkout counter leaves a lot to be desired. However, this may be a Croatian thing. There’s an excursion office located in the hotel with reasonable tour prices.
The official check-out time is 10am. However, we had a late afternoon flight and needed to check out at 1. I inquired at reception, and it was no problem at all. We were able to have late checkout free of cost. Something that’s very rare at many hotels.
Overall, the Funimation is a good functional hotel. You won’t regret your stay should you decide to stay there. However, on my next visit, I’ll certainly book their sister hotel, the Diadora which has recently opened.
