“A lovely view and helpful staff, shame about the food.”

I loved my stay at this hotel, helped by the hotel room with a balcony overlooking the Adriatic and the stunning sunsets. The staff were very helpful and the room was always clean and comfortable. The resort consists of two adjoined hotels sharing the same amenities - one a 3 star and one a 4 star; I stayed in the 4 start courtesy or a conference I was speaking at. The hotel is about 15 minutes drive from the beautiful antique city of Dubrovnik which is about €15 by taxi but there's a bus stop outside the hotel for about €1 and they run every 10 minutes.

Food at the hotel is a plentiful buffet but with very basic old-style Communistic cuisine. Plenty of choice so there's always something edible but lots of bony fish and touch meat if that's your thing. It wasn't mine.

One thing I don't recommend is the local 'attraction' of tours into Montenegro. It takes about 10 - 12 hours and most of that is spent in a mini-bus. Despite what the guide tells you the main stop is the beautiful city of Kotor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kotor) where you only get 20 minute guided tour and left on your own for 1 hour. Then it's on to another city for lunch (not provided) and a 2 1/2 hour stop. There's about 1 hour of things to do there and only a small Old Town, so a long wait for the mini bus. The cost is about €40-50 and it's a waste of a whole day.

I would recommend this hotel for those wanting a short visit to Dubrovnik or a 1-2 day stopping off point to another city.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view and pay the upgrade if you don't get one. At the time I visited there were ve...

“Honeymoon in Dubrovnik”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We spent 4 nights of our honeymoon in the Ariston in Dubrovnik. Staff on arrival could not have been nicer. A well equipped clean modern room with a/c and a balcony from which to view the sunset. Hotel is right at the water's edge with a swimming pool adjacent to the edge so you may swim in the pool or the sea. Crystal clear water. Note that there are no sandy beaches in Croatia so be prepared for walking on rocks. Get flip-flops or trainers! Good food selection at breakfast and an excellent evening restaurant for dinner. A very regular bus service will have you at the Old Town in 20 minutes. Could not fault the Ariston.

Room Tip: Get a balcony with sea view if you can.

“first you'll get used to crotian hotel standards then you'll love it!”

Actually the resort's called Importanne Resort :) as you'll not see road labels with Ariston but Importanne Resort.

First thing first: You should divide hotel stars in Croatia by two for them to fit in your hotel scale. No 5 star hotel in Dubrovnik is 5 star, thus goes the argument for 4 stars and onwards.

that was our first surprise when we entered Ariston hotel at 6 a.m. the reservation desk was simply and totally ignorant of our eyes begging for some sleep. we are actually denied for both checking and hotel breakfasts! I did my best to switch to any other hotel including Rixos, just 5 min distance. yet all overbooked and we were stuck in the middle of nowhere

After being forced to rest in the all crowded and noisy reception (the hoover man had no problem to clean the area in front of us trying to sleep) until 12 o'clock, we are at last given the courtesy to checkin.

the room was ok for high star hotel. it was fresh, clean, recently renovated. thus 5/5 for the room. it wasn't one of those overlooking the beaching but looking the park as we prefered to spend time at the beach or in the city. sleep quality was ok although be very careful with the bed choice. because our friends (Honeymoon couple!!) were given two separate beds for fuN!!

the hotel is established on a thin, rocky coast of Dalmatia with a very small area left for pools. indoor pool is a joke! it's like a big jakuzi. so the first outdoor poor near the reception. nevertheless, the beautiful, perfect blue, clean Adriatic see compensated all the drawbacks of other premises.

being a someone who is accustomed to sand beaches, it was so easy so accept rocky shore and start to enjoy the beautiful sea.

although the hotel accepts outsiders for the beach and although it's July thus somehow high season we did not feel so close to other tourists. Yet, beware of weekends. Saturday and sundays were nightmares. You simply. have to. get up early. and reserve a location before the breakfast.

breakfast is ok, while there's not much on the menu for lunch.

our transportation to Dubrovnik was not troublesome. you can either take a cab for 20EUR, or take the air conditioned bus for 10Kuna (Ariston is the first stop thus you can always find a seat) or you can simply walk to to the city for 15 minutes. (please ask the shortcut walk path to the city otherwise you could end up walking the wrong way for 60 min)

the city is not the scope of this review thus a simple sentence. You'll fall in love.

despite some now funny drawbacks, the holiday was 9/10 for us and will be definitely the same hotel if we visit Dubrovnik again.

“Almost Wonderful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

The Hotel Ariston is beautiful. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The pools were great, and the sea was marevelous. My children especially liked the cliff diving that the hotel offers. My daughter, however, did not like the fact that two of the three pools are saltwater. The hotel is also just a 10 minute bus ride from the old town, and the bus stop is just 100 meters from the hotel. The only negatives came in the food service sector. The pool bar offers a huge selection of expensive mixed drinks ($10/$20), but the bartender, who was clearly young and inexperienced, seemingly had no clue how to make the drinks on the menu. And the results were very bad. The food in the restaurant (Zoe) was very good, albeit expensive. But the female waitresses were often rude. Case in point, I ordered a prosciutto and melon appetizer, but received a tuna appetizer instead. When I told the waitress it was not what I ordered, she raised her voice, told me it was what I ordered, and tried to get me to take it. When I refused it, she got very upset and told me I should admit my mistake. Then, they brought is all of our food- soup, salad and main course- at the same time. Unfortunately, this event occurred on our first night at the hotel, and it kind of tainted the whole experience for us. Even so, I would absolutely recommend the hotel. I would simply tell people to avoid mixed drinks and the restaurant.
