Booked 2wks in Aug/Sep 2011 and felt we had pushed the boat out from our usual holidays. On arrival the hotel reception was a good sign! Waited quite a while for our room but in fairness we were early. Our allocated room in the Neptun was a big disappointment - it overlooked the roof of the neighbouring property with a partial view of the sea. We requested a room to the front with a direct seaview and were moved the next day. We still felt the rooms were disappointing with a very small shower room, but nonetheless it was a beautiful location and the outside space right by the water was beautiful. Some people may find it too isolated but you can get the bus from the top of the road right into the old town so it suited us perfectly. There are a few eating places nearby and shops where you can buy water etc. The walk around the coast into Lapad is also very pleasant so sometimes we walked there and back.
Our first week was perfect and we ate in various places including breakfast at the Neptun (large & varied choice but I'm not a fan of buffet style where lots of different hands are touching things.......), lunch in the restaurant and in Lapad and different restaurants in the old town.
Our second week was a nightmare, spent in hospital being pumped full of fluids and domestos-strength anti-biotics due to a very serious bout of food poisioning, which eventually caused kidney failure. Our "near-perfect" holiday was ruined and I was lucky to survive. Whilst we will never know where this was picked up, I was very angry that the hotel were not supportive of my husband at a very difficult and frightening time for him. I never returned to the hotel after my admission, instead having to leave from hospital to the airport. No-one even asked about my condition when my husband checked out. In addition I spent another 2 nights in hospital at home and took weeks to recover.
My overall opinion is that this is undoubtedly a lovely resort in a beautiful location and Dubrovnik is a place I'd recommend, despite this horror story. The rooms in the Neptun Hotel could do with an upgrade and Jet2 could have been more sympathetic with our situation.
