“Lovely holiday ruined by food poisioning”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Booked 2wks in Aug/Sep 2011 and felt we had pushed the boat out from our usual holidays. On arrival the hotel reception was a good sign! Waited quite a while for our room but in fairness we were early. Our allocated room in the Neptun was a big disappointment - it overlooked the roof of the neighbouring property with a partial view of the sea. We requested a room to the front with a direct seaview and were moved the next day. We still felt the rooms were disappointing with a very small shower room, but nonetheless it was a beautiful location and the outside space right by the water was beautiful. Some people may find it too isolated but you can get the bus from the top of the road right into the old town so it suited us perfectly. There are a few eating places nearby and shops where you can buy water etc. The walk around the coast into Lapad is also very pleasant so sometimes we walked there and back.
Our first week was perfect and we ate in various places including breakfast at the Neptun (large & varied choice but I'm not a fan of buffet style where lots of different hands are touching things.......), lunch in the restaurant and in Lapad and different restaurants in the old town.
Our second week was a nightmare, spent in hospital being pumped full of fluids and domestos-strength anti-biotics due to a very serious bout of food poisioning, which eventually caused kidney failure. Our "near-perfect" holiday was ruined and I was lucky to survive. Whilst we will never know where this was picked up, I was very angry that the hotel were not supportive of my husband at a very difficult and frightening time for him. I never returned to the hotel after my admission, instead having to leave from hospital to the airport. No-one even asked about my condition when my husband checked out. In addition I spent another 2 nights in hospital at home and took weeks to recover.
My overall opinion is that this is undoubtedly a lovely resort in a beautiful location and Dubrovnik is a place I'd recommend, despite this horror story. The rooms in the Neptun Hotel could do with an upgrade and Jet2 could have been more sympathetic with our situation.

“Beware of weddings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We stayed on a Friday & Saturday night. On both nights weddings were held at the restaurant. Loud music till 4.45am on the first night. We along with many other guests complained on the Saturday morning - we were assured that it was a " one off".
The loud music on Saturday night finished at 3.30am!.
Despite verbal & written complaints being made no communication what so so ever has been received from management. Disappointing for a resort that was otherwise quite reasonable.

“Not a great location for enjoying Dubrovnik”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed in a sea view room for 4 nights during our two week stay in Croatia. The hotel is about a 10 minute bus ride from Dubrovnik, not particularly difficult but it is not the nicest end to a relaxing evening enjoying the sunset in Dubrovnik or a busy day wandering around the town. There are very few food choices around the hotel, and we found the quality of the food to be poor. One of us had food poisoning during the trip - not sure whether from the room service or the lunch we had from nearby - and the hotel staff were hardly helpful. More worrying is that the plates from the meal that may have caused the problem stayed outside our room for two full days, despite our request to remove them. To relax by the sea it is not a bad choice, but to enjoy Dubrovnik and its surrounding restaurants I would stay closer.

“Friendly and relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

After 1 week sailing the beautiful Dalmatian coast it was wonderful to spend 3 nights at this hotel. We had a sea view room, very comfortable. The pools and easy access to swim in the sea was a bonus. It is a large hotel but we never felt over crowded because everything is well laid out. The breakfast was enough to keep us going until late afternoon! This hotel is not in or very near the old town but I feel that is an advantage from a crowd point of view. The hotel arranges its own taxi service into the old town about 15 minutes away or you can easily go by bus. Highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing time, great staff and great food.

“A lovely hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Greeted by friendly check in staff who spoke fluent English and as it was the end of the season were able to upgrade us to a room with a sea view. Room was very clean and spacious- the shower was excellent! Could have done with some fabric conditioner on the towels and bathrobe but as they were changed everyday, despite us hanging them up on the rail, we couldn't really complain! Catching the number 6 bus into town could not have been easier and took about ten minutes to get to Pile Gate in the Old town. Hotel is situated right on the coast- there is no beach but there is access to the clear water. We were here in the last week of October so the outdoor pools were no longer open but were disappointed to be told that the indoor pool was closed too. Even so this hotel is well worth the money, I would recommend it and stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade for a sea view- they can only say no!
