“Excellent hotel perfect for relaxation”

We just spent 5 nigths on Kolocep. And we got what we came for - 5 perfect sunny relaxing and enjoyable days. The Hotel is very nice - the room was kept immaculately clean - the size was okay with a nice little balcony for a beer prior to dinner. Excellent quiet beach which is nice for swimming. Kolocep is a beautiful island ideal for some light hiking offering stunning views and breathtaking sunrise.
The restaurant at Villa Ruza is also highly recommendable - high quality food at reasonable prices and a wide selection of lovely Croatian wines.

Room Tip: 813 - on 2nd floor with perfect view of the beach and the bay

“What a fab find!!”

Just come back from a wonderful stay in this heaven on earth location. I have visited many place including the Caribbean and can honestly say this was the prettiest including Megan's Bay. The views were stunning and when you spent time off the island on return it felt like "coming home". The staff could not do enough and were all most helpful. The food was always good choice but my only comment is that it could have been hotter even when one arrived as the restaurant opened.....maybe they could look into organizing this but apart from this there was nothing one could say about it.I am still getting over just how great it all was. We had private transfers from Dubrovnik and back and this was the icing on the cake. I would not hesitate to recommend to friends for a wonderful quiet holiday with excellent service.

Room Tip: I would recommend room 801 or 815 for the most fab views over the bay even though we did not stay in...

“Good value for a quiet time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

Staff were charming, the rooms always clean, wide choice for breakfast - three styles of eggs, about ten breads and pastries, fruit, proper bacon... however, the evening food was very canteen like. Entertainment on two evenings was better than expected, especially the jazz. Loungers round the pool were free of charge, no reason to pay for one on the beach unless you can't bear to walk the twenty feet from one to the other. Swap library had a wide choice of books in several languages. Do ask in advance for a room with a view or at least front facing, it makes a big difference. The movies seem unreliable and prone to sudden loss of signal, so don't rely on them for entertainment - you can take your own DVDs..
The island itself is tiny and very quiet. One post office, one village shop, three restaurants and one bar (and another restaurant in the other village 20 minutes away). Easy to take ferries if you get stir crazy. Very relaxing.

Room Tip: Ask for a front facing room with a view of the harbour

“Beautiful part of the world....”

We stayed at the hotel for a week at the end of August and was really glad we did ... we booked a family room which had a seperate room for my daughter, both rooms were very clean had air con with comfortable beds (which makes a nice change ) and having internet and a great choice of films when you want to get out of the heat at the end of the day ...we spent 3 days kayaking around the Island and the staff at Huck Finn who supply the kayaks at the hotel were really helpful and couldn't do enough for you ....the staff also at reception were always very helpful ...the choice of food is a little limited ...value for money but a small menu La trattoria at vila lovor is great for pizza and pasta and the staff were great ( on our last day we only had 1/2 hour until our ferry to Dubrovnik and they had our food for us in 15 mins ) ...for a great night go to Villa Ruza, expensive , but what a setting ...stunning views and sunsets and again the staff were great as was the food ... i can't really fault anything except there seemed to be a large population of wasps but they only really seemed to be interested in me for some reason so i'm sure you'll be fine ...

“Even Better Than Expected!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Well what can I say, I looked at many many reviews on this website before booking this at the last minute and I am so glad that I did. I'm 23 and went with my mum, needing a break and we had a fantastic time. The photos on the hotels own website do not do it justice. It's a stunning, stunning place. The island the hotel is based on is beautiful and is not at all commercial, with a stunning view (expecially if like us you request a room with a sea view e.g. Room 814 or 813). The hotel rooms have over 100 films in the hotel rooms for you to watch and the tv also turns into a pc which is good for email etc.

The Hotel is friendly and we found that there were a lot of nationalities at the hotel as well as English. It's a very family resort as well as for adults, very safe. Be warned, to go in August is hot! It was cooling down for september when we left, which is supposed to be a good time to go, but the sea is warmer in August. The main beach outside the hotel is cleaned every day we noticed and is well kept. You find some small fish sometimes swimming round your feet in the bay when you swim. People say that the island is small, although to walk round the whole thing will take you 3 hours and you can walk over to the other side of the island in half an hour, where the other beach and cove is, very beautiful there as well. There's lots to do at the hotel, bike riding, tennis courts, tours round the island, kiaks etc, as we did. The sea is so clear so you can see the bottom no matter how deep you go out. The hotel also runs excursions, we did the blue lagoon cave trip after seeing it recommended on here, and it was great. The little boat takes you round the island, letting you stop at a cave for people to dive off into clear blue water and swim into, or like me, just have a swim round the boat. It also takes you to the cove the other side of the island. They do this trip on certain days, so ask when you get there to make sure you get a place. Dubrovnik is a great to visit, we did that for two days of our visit and really enjoyed it, you can walk round the walls to the old city or as we did, walk round the narrow streets and explore. If your looking for cheaper food options during the day, pemo supermarket by port gruz (which is where the ferry takes you to dubrovnik from the hotel island and where you can get a bus into the old city), is the opposite side of the road a little way up and which we used a lot for fantastic cheaper prices. The only downside to the island is that there are only four ferries a day to dubrovnik and back to the island (the last ferry coming back at 8), which for some may be limiting as they are quite spaced out in time, but for us wasn't a problem, especially now that the hotel runs extra boat services to dubrovnik on certain days (although it is a little more in price than the normal ferry).

Make sure that you definitely do a trip to miljet, an island which has now become a national park, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. You have to get the first early ferry of the day from the hotel at 6.45am in order to get the 9.15am ferry at the port (people que early), but breakfast starts at 6am at the hotel, so you can eat before going. It's an hour to get there from dubrovnik port, and once you get there and have paid entrance, you are able to get the free bus which takes people to the park entrance. From there you can either walk round, or as we did, get straight onto the small boat over to what was the old monastry, which is where you can swim in beautiful salt lakes - which is the attraction of going here and is by far makes the travelling worth it. We are glad we went straight over to the salt lakes, warmer to swim in and you can make the most of the time before having to head back.

The hotel serves a very good breakfast, with a lot more selection than just continental. The hotel's own dinner buffet menu in the evening is fantastic, the food is very good - well recommended to pay for buffet and help yourself to a great selection for the three courses. There are also three restaurants on the island, the first, Villa Ruza I think its called, is the most expensive but the food is great and is very close to the hotel with a great sunset in the evening. The other little restaurant just down from the hotel where the boat comes in is Villa Loma, also nice, bit more basic. The fish restaurant the other side of the island (half hour walk and is recommended on here) is definitely worth a visit too and by far does some fantatic home cooked food. The chef even uses a hairdryer to help get the fire going! The hotel also does sandwiches and salads etc. (Try the steak sandwich - great.) Also on two evenings there is a jazz night at the hotel, which people can enjoy and they also do a night of traditional local dalmation music - both of these are great and we really enjoyed.

There is no tea and coffee in the room incase you expect that, but all in all I cannot fault the hotel and have not stopped recommending it to people now that I have come back. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room.
