Our stay in Dubrovnik was enhanced by the excellent location (probably the best in the area) of our hotel which was right next to Lapad Beach and had a lovely pool. We loved the promenade area with all the restaurants and shops along which we walked to get the No 6 bus, just a few minutes away. The coastal route to the Marina made an extremely pleasant walk with plenty of shady areas to rest awhile and there are several other picturesque walks around the penisular.

The staff were helpful and friendly but the food was a little disappointing, though considering the 3 star status not unexpected since the overall opinion was good value for money. The entertainment provided each evening was variable and mostly enjoyable.

For a three star hotel we can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

The Kompas has excellent, friendly staff who cannot do enough to help and is very clean and well run - BUT it's in a very touristy area near a children's play park and the lovely terrace is spoilt 2-3 nights a week by the terrible duo doing very bad cover versions, but that thankfully stops by 10.30. It needs to as the air con isn't very effective so you need to keep the balcony door open during warm nights. Noticed that this hotel had a bit of a saga feel to it... We were B&B but spoke to others who were 1/2 board who all described the food as 'ok at best'. The great thing is that you're right on the sea and there's a walk along the path around the peninsula which is nice and gets you away from the souvenir shops and football bars very quickly and the number 6 bus from the end of the street is a great service to and from the old town.

Reasonably priced hotel, right on the beach in Lapad.
Given a room in the old wing overlooking the roof of the car park (rooms 900+)
Air-con was ineffective, room was musty, with 2 single beds pushed together to form a double bed.
Manager was kind enough to move us to the main complex the next day where the
rooms were much better.
Breakfast buffet was OK, catering to a fairly large crowd, so nothing too fancy.

Hotel well located with a number of restaurants just down the promenade.
Worth walking round to the other side of the bay as the water was a little bit clearer
and you didnt have the sea grass murkiness.

Hotel needs refurbishment as it is starting to look quite dated and really not in keeping with its sister hotels.

It was 20 euro per night to upgrade to a balcony, but with the Adriatic only 10 meters from the front of the hotel why stay in you room? Our room did not have a view but was spacious and clean with very friendly and efficient staff looking after it. The buffet breakfast and dinner were varied, plentiful and well presented. Every one of the staff were friendly and the desk staff very helpful, knowlegeable and fluent in several languages.It has a great location for sea swimming. It is only a 10 minute walk through the pedestrianised area to local buses, a hypermarket (Tommy) and pharmacy (D&M). Alternatively a walk in the opposite direction along cliffside path take you to the bus teminus in less that 30 minutes, thus ensuring a seat on the very busy No6 bus to the marina and Old Town. Great value for money.
