“Great location, spotless rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2007

For starters, its location is perfect, for business or tourism. It over looks the main square, which is perfect for people watching, and is more or less smack dab at the point where old town meets new. From here, one can conveniently see walk to all of the sights in old town, the churches, the restaurants and all of the museums. There is also a trolley stop just in front. It is in the center of everything. I suppose if you were staying on one of the bottom floors, it could be noisy, so suggest one on an upper level and try to get a view of the square if possible.

The rooms are very comfortable (sheets and pillows to die for) and the hotel is sparkling clean. Perhaps the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in.

The staff is incredibly helpful and polite. My husband and I arrived at 1130 pm local time after 30+ hours of traveling from California. The airline had lost my toiletry bag and so I was without toothpaste (we flew during that brief period when absolutely no liquids or gels were permitted). I inquired about toothpaste at the front desk (which they don’t stock b/c it is Eastern Europe after all). It was late and we had yet to exchange our currency. The man at the front desk actually left his post, walked me over to a stand that was just about to close, and bought the toothpaste for me (I of course paid him back the first thing the next am). They even sent someone to get my bag from the airport for me.

This place is an incredible value in a great location. I wouldn’t recommend staying anywhere else.

“Great location”

We spent 2 nights at the Hotel Dubrovnik. It is located right off the main square at the beginning of the upper and lower town walking tours. Nice size rooms. The hotel has a parking area where your can pre-arrange to park your car. The hotel also has a business center that offers free internet and has 2 computers for the use of the guests.

“Location great, but feels like a chain hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2007

The big plus point is the location. It's about 60 seconds walk from the main square in the city, but sufficiently removed not to suffer too much noise at night.
The bad bit is that it does feel rather like some large chain hotel. While the exterior looks like some throwback to the 1980s (think mirror glass), the interior is reasonably modern - although the entrance feels a bit like a mini shopping centre.

Some staff at reception are friendly, others are downright surly. I walked in and asked for a room - the person at reception told me to wait as she was busy talking to a colleague about a number of routine matters. Acceptable in a small place, but not for somewhere over 120 euros per night in a business-oriented hotel at the weekend when room occupancy is low and reception needs to make a bit more of an effort to sell rooms.
Other staff were much more helpful - when I rang later in the afternoon, person at reception was happy just to take my name and hold the room for me when I checked-in later. Check-in was very quick.

Room itself could have been anywhere in the world - essentially identikit furnishing. Comfortable, and everything works, but really rather bland. Single rooms get just a (rather small) shower in the bathroom.

Food at breakfast was reasonably good, but I was a little surprised to see one of the staff taking food off people's plates and putting it into the serving area, and also putting leftover bits of cereal back in the cereal jars.

Having said all that, it's not a bad place if you want somewhere moderately comfortable for a night or two, particularly in a city which doesn't have that many hotels in the centre.

Overall opinion ? The level of comfort is closer to a 3-star than the claimed 4 stars. If you want the corporate thing without spending too much it'll do (although better places exist in the city). If you insist on being in the very very centre of town, this is the place for you. If you're travelling on leisure, a good quality pansion may be better value.

“Location, Location, Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2007

On vacation to the Dalmatian coast, my husband and I spent one night in Zagreb. We needed a central location from which we could check out the sites of the city in one afternoon, and Hotel Dubrovnik was perfect! The hotel is right on the main square and within easy walking distance to all the attractions. Inside, it's pretty much a basic hotel, but all amenities were there. Bathroom was a good size (the towels were a bit rough), bed was king-sized (instead of 2 twins pushed together, which seems common in this area) and comfortable. No clock/alarm clock in the room though (also seems common in this region). I liked the use of the room key to turn on lights and AC - very environmentally friendly. No noise at all at night, as previously reported by other reviewers, and we even stayed on a Saturday night! Reception was friendly and courteous. Parking lot is about a block away, as the hotel is in a pedestrian area, and 15 euro for the day. Included breakfast was pretty good (not bad, not outstanding). Overall, would recommend if you're here for a day and want to check out the city. The key feature of this place is, without a doubt, the location.

“Good location, indifferent staff.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2007

The hotel was well-placed right on Jelacica Square and easy walking distance to most sights in Zagreb. The hotel had a restaurant which wasn't too expensive and free internet access in the Business Centre. The rooms were small and in need of renovations. We had booked a non-smoking room but were given a smoking room on check in. The room was deodorised so that it was not noticable until you got into bed and the smoke smell leached out of the mattress and pillow. We changed rooms the next morning to a non-smoking room but were a little annoyed that our confirmed non-smoking room booking was ignored. The staff at the hotel were business-like rather than friendly. Overall, Hotel Dubrovnik is a typical business hotel in a great location but is in need of freshening up, both with regards to the rooms and service.
