The Funk Hostel has a great vibe, the staff is very friendly and helpful, they have free laundry on site (only need to buy the soap, 2 euro) good location, and it as pretty clean. The only problem is that the rooms are very cramped and youre basically sleeping on top of the other 6 people in the room. A good time though. They also had a couple great lounge areas.

I arrived late and was tired, a bit sick and the first thing when I walked in was people smoking - inside, and talking and shouting loudly. It took quite a while to get a bed and somehow I didn't feel all too welcome, nothing was really explained and I didn't get that 'Welcome!' feeling.

But it was a clean hostel, quite quiet and nice in many ways. The painting on the kitchen wall was nice as well as the girl painting it. I also felt that the guy at the reseption was way much nicer than the girl - he even ordered me food and was just friendly. I think that if he had checked me in I would have enjoyed my stay a lot more.

I would recommend this hostel for partyanimals and small groups, maybe not for tired, a bit feverish solo travellers like me :) I might even go there again, IF I would go to Zagreb again, which I probably wont.

Keep in mind whenever you backpack through foreign lands, alone or with friends, you will essentially lose many basic human rights or privacy while on your adventure. Staying in hostels can be either a sinking or a swimming experience. The Funk Hostel in Zagreb was by far my favorite place I stayed in all of Europe. The staff were beautiful and so nice. The place is brand spanking new and clean. The country itself is so undiscovered overall due to its proximity and participation throughout the Balkan conflict of the 90's. This is a town with rich history and great food. I would go back to the Funk Hostel before ever staying at the famous Hotel Esplanade in downtown Zagreb. Took me 20 minutes to walk there from the main station and not once felt threatened walking through the streets. Please go there and tell Nina I said what's up! I have no plan for be in Croatia, but after a little train conflict I decide expend a night here, and was a very good idea, the city es very nice to, but small, wherever yo can expend a god time.

The hostel have all than you can need even laundry machine for free, and its very god communicated with the dow town via tram.

So if you need accommodation in Zagreb this its a very good option.
