“No Frills...You get what you pay for!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

If you are considering staying at this hostel, you are probably looking at it because of its price...its fantastic low price, that offers somewhere to rest your head with a "No Frills" approach. Don't come expecting much, but what you get for the price is good value. It is fairly confusing as there are many properties let by this agency, but if you go for the cheapest option - you will end up in an unstaffed dorm. The staff that manage this place are based a few doors up the road and are very welcoming and helpful. Their hospitality includes great breakfasts and we also had the opportunity to try the local coffee and spirit (although this was their generosity, rather than something to expect). The important thing is to make sure you ask them if you need something - while we were staying there people were going to cafes to use the internet, when they were happy for people to use the office computers. Also people had been sleeping in the freezing cold rather than asking about turning the heating on. They were more than happy to help with both things. The location is fantastic - opposite the Bascarsija Main Square.

Room Tip: We came to this hostel off-season, and because of this there weren't many people staying. What w...

“Worst hostel I have ever stayed in. Ever.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2011

Everything bad that everyone else said about this place is true.

The hostel and the reception are in seperate buildings. The hostel itself is apparently unstaffed. A tiny "kitchen" with a single burner and a doll sized sink full of dirty dishes. No place to eat except the sleeping room.

The bunk beds are so cramped, you can't sit up if you are in the bottom bunk. Just crawling in is a major pain. Once you get in the bed, you will find a paper thin mattress which allows you to feel every bump and ridge in the bed frame. The pillow is huge and hard. If you try to put your head on it it bends your neck at an painful angle.
There was NO hot water. I couldn't take a shower after a 10 hour train ride. Had to go to sleep dirty.

There is no phone or internet in the building (they claim you get internet access in their literature, but once you get to the hostel you find no computers, and it says on the wall you can go to their restaurant and pay at a "discount" for internet. Which does not agree with what their brochures say. No one to call if there is a problem.

When I told reception about all this the next day, I expected at least a discount. But they had my passport and would not give it back until I paid in full...23 KM. When you check in, they demand to keep either your passport or a 20 Euro "key deposit", which of course they won't return to you unless you pay for the bed in full no matter how bad it was. The chain smoking woman behind the desk tried to pretend it was my fault there was no hot water, and tried to pretend the reception office was open last night, when it wasn't.

When I first arrived a male staff member was very nice to me and drove me from the train station. He helped me a lot, but he wasn't there the next morning. So some of the staff ARE friendly, but this place is not worth it.

It may be close to the old quarter, and the staff were friendly enough at first, but this place severely overcharges for what you get. 23 KM (about $16) doesn't sound expensive by Western European or American standards, but in Sarajevo you can get a nice private room in a house for much less than 23 KM.

Room Tip: Any other hostel/agency would be better than this

“Possibly the most horrific experience of my life.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

We got a taxi from the train station to this hostel, and in the taxi the driver warned us not to stay at this hostel... We definitely should have listened. The hostel is dark, dank and dingy. We stayed in the 21 person room, completely crowded and on top of each other. We shared one kitchen that had the same rotting food on it from the beginning of our stay until the end, it wasn't cleaned once. The bathroom was disgusting. 21 people had to share it and it was cleaned once a day, if even. I have never been so distraught as i was when i landed down in this hostel! On the plus side, most of us in the hostel went out together because no one could bear to stay in the hostel for an extended period of time, and we met some really really great people. The sense of being in the most depraved of conditions really bonded us... :-p All in all, i would not recommend staying here.

“Central and partyfriendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2009

Yes its true, this is not a very neat and clean place to stay, _but_ its the cheapest in town, supercentral and it attracts alot of fun people! If you stay in the dorm (which I did) you`ll be in a room with potenially 15 other people. Breakfat in included and its surprisingly good!
The commonroom isnt really a room at all but a corner by the staircase. Its not very comfortable, but we still had a great time, playing guitar, singing and partying before we would go out.

The bathrooms are ok, 5-6 bathrooms with toalets and showers.
I had a great time due to the people I met here, but if you are in need of privacy and antibacterial suroundings you might not enjoy it as much as I did.

“Overall, not the best place to stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2008

The hostel is definitely below par and doesn't meet the standards of its peers. The building is old and unrenovated, the rooms are cramped, and it's fairly dirty. The staff were unfriendly. When I asked about public transit, the person at the front desk didn't look up from his magazine. They make you pay a 20 euro deposit for the key, though the locks don't work. The location, however, is very central. I'm sorry to say that compared to all the other hostels I stayed at in Eastern Europe, this was the worst.
