“Could be excellent... but it isn't.”

The hall of the Hotel Sosan in Pyongyang was very large and cold in April, the month I was there. First they gave me a room on 19th floor, which I found unpleasant because it was too cold. I exchanged it with one on the 20th floor, where all the rooms had the heated floors, 26°C, delicious!
The Hotel Sosan has 30 floors, 2 restaurants, a massage room, pool tables and 2 shops, but it isn't in good condition. They put the carpet in a bad way, room keys are normal metal keys (not cards), and of the 4 lifts only 2 are working. When I opened the warm water tap, strange incrustations came out. Some people of my group lamented about the cockroaches in their rooms. But worse was surely the food in the restaurants: it seems they have no idea what to serve to western guests! For breakfast they often served us the cold remnants of dinner from the night before. Good laundry service, though.

  • Liked — My room on 20th floor: temperature, space, comfort, wiew from the window.
  • Disliked — The meals in the restaurant.

“Under the Loving Care of the Dear Leader”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2006

The hotel itself was rather old, but recently renovated, resembled a Sheraton or Hyatt. It has great facilities, a pool, bars, internet access (remarkably), and even cable! Although it was inhabitable, it was inhospitable, as very few knew english, and those who did - was fairly incoherrent. Guards are stationed around the hotel, and they're generally alright if you do not provoke them. There are pictures of the Dear Leader everywhere, even in the guest rooms.

Anyways, my stay at the hotel had gave me much insight into the love and care the Dear Leader shows upon his citizens.

North Korea, a beautiful country, is a must place to visit.

  • Liked — Pictures of the Dear Leader
  • Disliked — The bathrooms- they did not have any pictures of the Dear Leader nor the Great Leader
  • Tips/Secrets — Always kiss the Dear Leader before you sleep, the cameras in the ceiling will make you preferable in the eyes of the guards.
