“Really much better that 3 stars--but hard to pin down why”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

I really like the Suva Motor Inn. It's just that I'm not sure why. Maybe I like the intererior ambience--it's like a tropical garden all walled about with beautiful plantings with waterfalls dropping down the mountain into a beautiful natural pool. Except that it is a water slide and a very artificial pool, yet it all works well.

I happen to love the sound of kids shouting happily in the pool--and it's a great place for kids to slide their afternoons away. I would sit outside my door watching, play my ukulele, and generally have a fine afternoon doing nothing much.

The restaurant is VERY mediocre, but the pancakes are great. The front desk staff is first-rate--friendly and helpful and never at a loss. My room was HUGE with working air-con and swiveling ceiling fan, and the water was always hot and plentiful. There were a few teeny cockroaches in the bathroom, but nothing one wouldn't expect in any tropical location. The kitchenette had a great fridge, microwave, electric kettle, and was well stocked with crockery.

Just outside the hotel one can walk downhill to Albert Park and catch a cab anywhere, or walk up a bit of stairs to MacGregor road and also catch a cab anywhere. It is wonderfully close to the best Thai Massage spot in the Pacific (at 15 Pendry St,) and well worth FJ$60 to get an hour of real Thai massage from sight-impaired Fijians. Talk about a match made in heaven! Fijian muscle and Thai technique . . . . but I'll write that review another time.

The laundry service (sent out) was fast and reliable, and in every way I'll have nothing but great memories of this place. But as a vacation destination, I think it might not be great UNLESS you had kids old enough to swim and handle the admittedly steep (and unsupevised) slide. Apart from that, the kid entertainment options are negligible.

“Great location, fantastic staff and good value for money considering it is quite cheap compared to other places in Suva”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2010

We enjoyed staying at this hotel because it was in a great location for the things we were doing and the staff were excellent. We were on a first-name basis on Day 2 and they always promptly and warmly provided for our requests.
We wanted accommodation which had a kitchenette so we could fix breakfasts. There are not many places in Suva which have this and they are either really cheap and nasty, or really expensive. This place is in-between. We got a really good rate. Having read previous reviews, we didn't expect much and so the state of the rooms was fine. It is NOT fancy - you get what you pay for. We had problems with the airconditioning unit the first night (it wasn't cooling properly) and when they couldn't fix it the next day they moved us to another room which was very satisfactory.
Rooms are always well serviced.
Unfortunately the kitchenette facilities are sparce - only a microwave (no hot plate/stove) and very little crockery/cutlery. Also sparce are the towels. We had to ask for more towels but these were promptly provided. Clearly this hotel (has to) keeps its overheads/costs to a minimum - times are tough I guess.
I know people who regularly stay there every time they visit Suva - for the positive things outlined above.

“Nothing to "wow" about.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2010

- We arrived late. Reception was okay. Security was not. The security man insisted of taking our suitcases and hinted at wanting a tip. He made us feel unsafe.
- The room is just your run of the mill room. Not the best service apartments around. But for its price, its not great, its only "acceptable" because of the roaches and dirty surfaces.
- Beds - OK
- The bathroom shower curtain is little mucky.
- The location is not bad. Less than 5 minutes away from Victoria Parade. But the Holiday Inn would be better as long as you do not need the apartment facility of a microwave oven. (You do not in reality).
- Did I like anything in any way? NO
- Did I dislike anything in any way? The smell in the room. It had a sweet smell that left it smelling like some cheap toilet.

“Good value for money in a central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2010

I stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a business trip in Suva. Staff are helpful and friendly and generally this hotel is pretty good. It has a small pool which is nice for cooling off in (but not big enough for swimming really), a small bar and restaurant and is situated in a good location for visiting the town centre. It's a small walk into the centre of town and is close to the museum, British hIgh Commission and Albert Park. Rooms here are huge but the main downside is the decor is very dated and tired looking. The television is also tiny which looks strange in a large room! The room however was clean. I thought breakfast was good value and not expensive but I didn't eat any other meals here so can't comment on those. Overall this is good value for money - it's certainly not a flash place but staff are friendly and it's in a good lcoation.

“A good location for exploring Suva”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2010

The Suva Motor Inn has large, basic rooms. Each room has a balcony. The rooms are comfortable enough but definitely without any frills or homely touches.

However, the hotel has a very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are very reasonably priced. The Suva Motor Inn is well located for exploring the sights of Suva on foot. It is also close to Suva's main restaurant and bar area.

The hotel has a pool with a waterslide and its own pleasant restaurant. If I'm ever back in Suva I would stay here again.
