“Very good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

My last business trip to Montevideo was decided just 2 days before and I could not get any reservation at the hotels I normally stay . After a brief search I found the London Palace Hotel with very nice price and good location. The hotel is located just two blocks from 18 of July Ave and very close to the old center of Montevideo. From the bus terminal Tres Cruces to the Hotel is just 15 minutes by car and will cost you no more than 6 dollars. From the Carrasco International Airport will take around 30 minutes to get to the hotel.
The hotel is old and present signs of age. The elevator is very old, with small pantograph doors . They give me a room 211 on the second floor and was small with air conditioning and 21" LCD TV . The bathroom was also small with hair dryer and shower relatively good. The towels shows signs of age.
In the elevator was a warning that the service of Wi-Fi was not working properly.I was not able to use because I prefer to use one of three computers that are available at reception at no additional cost.
The breakfast was a good surprise. It is served on the reception floor (buffet style) with good space for people. Tasty breads and options of cheese (two) and also cold cuts . Cereals, yogurts and also gelatin and home made rice pudding. Very uruguayan.
The reception people was very friendly and you can get any information or service with they. Even as car rental or how pick up buses to other cities.
The location of London Palace Hotel is actually very good with easy walking to lot of Montevideo Landmarks such as the old city , mercado do porto or just walking on the 18 of July Avenue with a lot of stores and galleries to explore. Around the hotel you have a lot of options to eat ( meat and no meat restaurants) and one very good is The Fogon just beside the parking hotel (free) with lunch and dinner service and 10% discount for guests from the London Palace Hotel.

“Outdated, but a good option downtown”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Again without getting reservations at my preferred ones at Montevideo, got a reservation at London Palace.

Its a downtown hotel, very well located. 2 blocks from main street and with restaurants in the same block. You will be in walking distance from all downtown attractions.

The hotel is outdated, from the front desk to the corridors, the elevators are tiny and a very old still with the pantograph sliding doors. The room has been renovated with wood carpet floors and split air conditioner, as well as LCD Tv at some rooms.

Made the reservation for a big suite for couple and kids, but they gave me connected rooms instead.

The rooms are clean , and the beds are good, the towels are needing an update.Ask for the suites, they are hugely big.

The surprise of the place is an outstanding breakfast (included) that you won t forget, they even use the photos of the breakfast at their marketing folders.

They receive excursion and when the buses arrives it can get messy with the tiny elevators and front desk.

Still a good option for downtown with a nice value for money.

They a have a big and free parking also.

If my preferred ones were taken, or wanting for a budget hotel I sure would go back.

Room Tip: Ask for the suites, are worthy.

Modern, clean rooms. Located close to 2 main plazas and within walking distance of the old city. Nice breakfast.

“fair enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

i don't know how other hotels in the city are, but i am not sure i would come back to this one.
the lobby is nice, and the staff was very very nice, and there was free internet as well in the lobby.
i guess it depends what the reason of your coming is. if you need one night in the city, the rooms are relatively clean, they have hot water in the shower and the hotel is close to the center (although there are others that are closer). if you are coming for more then one night or with a family, you should now that the rooms are small, there is a lot of noise in the morning, and there is kind of a moldy smell in the rooms.
the breakfast has a large variety, but only if you wake up early. from our experience, one time we woke up early and the buffet had a lot to offer, and the next day we woke up later, and it wasn't renewed. i guess all in all, it was ok, but we expected better

“Excellent Choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2009

We really enjoyed our stay here. We walked in without a reservation, and had the feeling that there would always be rooms available. The front desk staff is professional. It's a real hotel and is well managed. Excellent location, good size room, good bed and linens, good bathroom with strong shower, lots of shelf space, wifi, and quiet. Also one of the better breakfast buffets that we've had in South America. The older style of the furnishings is correct for the era of the hotel, but it's well maintained and quite comfortable. $80 a night for a double - that seems to be the going rate for a really comfortable room.
