My last business trip to Montevideo was decided just 2 days before and I could not get any reservation at the hotels I normally stay . After a brief search I found the London Palace Hotel with very nice price and good location. The hotel is located just two blocks from 18 of July Ave and very close to the old center of Montevideo. From the bus terminal Tres Cruces to the Hotel is just 15 minutes by car and will cost you no more than 6 dollars. From the Carrasco International Airport will take around 30 minutes to get to the hotel.
The hotel is old and present signs of age. The elevator is very old, with small pantograph doors . They give me a room 211 on the second floor and was small with air conditioning and 21" LCD TV . The bathroom was also small with hair dryer and shower relatively good. The towels shows signs of age.
In the elevator was a warning that the service of Wi-Fi was not working properly.I was not able to use because I prefer to use one of three computers that are available at reception at no additional cost.
The breakfast was a good surprise. It is served on the reception floor (buffet style) with good space for people. Tasty breads and options of cheese (two) and also cold cuts . Cereals, yogurts and also gelatin and home made rice pudding. Very uruguayan.
The reception people was very friendly and you can get any information or service with they. Even as car rental or how pick up buses to other cities.
The location of London Palace Hotel is actually very good with easy walking to lot of Montevideo Landmarks such as the old city , mercado do porto or just walking on the 18 of July Avenue with a lot of stores and galleries to explore. Around the hotel you have a lot of options to eat ( meat and no meat restaurants) and one very good is The Fogon just beside the parking hotel (free) with lunch and dinner service and 10% discount for guests from the London Palace Hotel.
