“Beautiful Pool & Grounds!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Belmont House is a beautiful boutique hotel in the Carrasco suburb of Montevideo. Staff is very helpful and informative. Note that this hotel is close to the brand new Montevideo Airport but quite a distance from downtown and shopping. It is in walking distance to the small town of Carrasco where you will find some restaurants and stores. The pool and surrounding courtyard is beautiful and restful. We were served drinks poolside. The buffet breakfast was adequate. Take a walk along the riverfront. A new casino is being built within walking distance of the hotel which should be open within the year.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool with balcony's are suggested.

“Excellent stay if you don't bother being far from downtown”

Belmont House is a really nice, old-fashioned hotel in a residential neighborhood in Carrasco. Our room was big, comfortable and clean and the staff was really nice to us. The hotel has a great atmosphere - it's quiet and relaxing. Great for a getaway weekend.
However, beware that it is very far from downtown and it's really difficult to get a taxi around there! We almost lost our reservation in a restaurant downtown, because we took 25 minutes just to find an available taxi. So, if you're planning to see touristic attractions in Montevideo, Belmont House is probably not the best choice. However, if you just want to spend a relaxing weekend in a cozy hotel, I definitely recommend it.

“A fine boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

On January 2012, I stayed again at the Belmont HOuse I feel it is unfair to say that this property has gone downhill as KandiceK states in her review I would not say either that this is the best hotel I ever stayed as in another review.
The Belmont House might be some years old, but I found it to be what it has always been: a nice boutique hotel built and decorated with good quality materials in good taste. I had no problem finding hand towels, the matter in fact my large white marble bathroom was provided with all the usual towels plus two bath robes. Everything I needed was there hair dryer, bath gel, shampoo and so forth.
It was very hot in January 2012 and I spent with pleasure sometime in the hotel 's pool. Not your usual hotel pool, but an elegant , fairly deep pool surrounded by green: flowers, trees.
and grass. There were fresh towels in each lounge chair most importantly it was quiet and I had the luxury to rest in my lounge chair far from any other guest.
I ordered a gin and tonic, read, swam and had the feeling of being in a special place.
Breakfast is included in the rate,it is a good buffet, room service is also good.
The bar is pleasant and one day I had a nice English tea with nice little sandwiches and
orange cake.

Staff is very friendly, they do speak English in the front desk and I also overheard the manager, a young lady speaking fluent German with an Austrian couple.
This trip I found out that a taxi can be called buy dialing 1771, front desk can do it, and it charges only $252 pesos to the Airport, also coming back can be called and they charge same fare, instead of $490 that is the fare of official airport taxis ( white taxis).
For me this is a quaint small hotel where I have a good time each time I go/ They have free wifi in all rooms which of course is a very welcome addition.

“A SUPERB STAY IN A COMFORTABLE HOTEL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

we stepped off the aircraft on Christmas eve and were soon in the comfort of this country house style hotel nestling in one of the most upmarket suburbs in Montevideo. Quiet and relaxing, the small pool and garden has limited beds for peak times. The food in the restaurant and at breakfast was good. The staff were attentive and helpful and the room nicely furnished with antiques. At least two bus services run very close by linking the city although it is a fair jaunt, driving in Uruguay is generally easy for those used to busier European cities etc. The local suburb has plenty of shops abnd the sea / river front is very close by. Something falls short of perfection, The Christmas eve dinner was a disappointment and sometimes you felt staff were doing you a favour by serving you but don't that put you off.

Room Tip: all rooms would be quiet at night, double glazed, littler traffic, there are two suites.

“Paradise on earth...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Great hotel and service as many people have already mentioned. The area around the pool was paradise on earth. Quiet, peaceful, relaxing. The pool is fantastic offering a good chance to get a swim in given the pool has depth to it.

Food at restaurant is exceptional and prepared and presented extremely well.

Only drawback is that smoking is allowed in the rooms of the hotel and around the pool. My pool-side paradise was intermittenly interrputed by the waft of cigarette smoke. The smoke was a reminder that truly paradise had not yet been achieved. There was also the smell of stale smoke in my room (room number 7). Management should consider limiting smoking to certain areas only. I had clearly requested a non-smoking room when I booked well in advance.

Overlooking the smoking drawback, this is a fine establishment. However, keep in mind that you will be far from the city center with a taxi ride costing $240 Uruguayan pesos (approximately $12 as of January 6 2012 exchange rates).

Room Tip: Make sure you choose a room that is close to door going out to pool area. I recommend avoiding room...
