“Great location but dated rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The view was great from our 12th floor room but the room itself was very dated. We were staying in the club section so also got to take advantage of the free appetizers and drinks each night at 5 pm on the 15th floor. The pool on the roof is awesome. The best thing about the hotel though is that you can walk straight into Punta Carreta shopping center. We saw Avatar one night we stayed there and it was really nice to take a break from shopping and go up to the hotel for a rest etc. I thought the price per night was too high for Uruguay and there are better hotels in the Punta Carretas area. It was worth the experience but I wouldn't stay again. The customer service at the front desk and the concierge were also excellent. If the rooms and bathrooms were updated I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Its worth paying a bit more to get in one of the club rooms.

“Nice location and view; good service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My spouse and I stayed in the Sheraton Montevideo for six nights (including Christmas) in December 2011. We were very happy with our stay. The hotel is located in a good part of town, close to the beach and connected to a large, modern shopping centre. It is an easy bus ride from in front of the shopping centre to the Centro or to the old town (about twenty minutes). We had an excellent view of the waterfront. The room was large and clean and there was a good desk for working/laptopping. The breakfast buffet was well-presented with a wide choice. Furthermore the staff were very friendly and helpful; we particularly appreciated the efforts of the restaurant captain who found a last-minute table for us at their top-floor Christmas Eve buffet dinner [particularly recommended if you are visiting on 24 December as the view of the fireworks is amazing].

“Are you sure?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I would like to tell everyone that any taxi or private car takes half an hour to get from the airport to Pocitos (where the hotel is located), 35 minutes downtown and near 40 to Ciudad Vieja (Old City). The fare of airport taxis is quite fair and if you compare with other capital cities is quite convenient. I am really surprise about the comments because I recommended this hotel to several passengers and they were really satisfied. Regarding internet speed, our country overcomes this problem and optic fiber is being installed in Montevideo. Pocitos (again the neighborhood where the hotel is located) is the first one and hopefully Internet will be as fast as in the US. We celebrate our aniversary there and was really rewarding

“Absolutely beautiful”

Rooms: We stayed in the Executive floor. Room was huge and with the floor to ceiling glass window, you have a view of the Rio de la Plata that is out of this world; very good linens, must be at least 400 threads;
Bath: big and super clean with very good amenities and toiletries.
Breakfast: wide array of choices.
Property location: chic neighborhood of Punta Caretas. Not so close to the city center but right next to the Punta Caretas Shopping Mall and the golf club.
The Neptune Pool and Fitness Center, located on the top floor, offer an exceptional view of the city. A must visit and use after a day's sightseeing.

Check-In:
Arrived at hotel around 1300. Was told room was still being cleaned and would not be available for a while.
Took shower at rooftop pool changing area and went to meetings. Came back and checked in for supposedly cleaned room around 1900.
Shortly afterwards saw condom wrappers on floor near couch. Called reception. They sent up a cleaning lady who vacuumed floor but no explanation or apology
especially after the big deal made about rooms needing more time to clean earlier in the day preventing checkin.
