“BEDBUGS EVERYWHERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2011

I don't have much to say about this hostel, but the 85% customer rating on the hi hostel website shouldn't be! We got here just a few hours ago and woke up in the middle of the night with bedbugs crawling all over us and our things. We should've realized that this place was infested when one of our roommates who obviously stayed here the night before was spraying her bed with some toxic substance that made our lungs hurt.
So..it is 3 am and we are trying to find a different hostel for tomorrow night, any suggestions?

“Ok but I think there are better out there.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

This hostel is ok, but not much more. It doesn¨t feel that clean which is never a good start. There are some good points. It is out of the city which if you want to feel a bit more disconnected then they´ve achieved that. You can walk or take a bus quite cheaply. The lockers thing is a concern, I agree with previous posts although I didn¨t have a problem personally. It is quite expensive compared to other place sI have been staying, and they didn¨t want to give me an HI discount at first. Pocitos, the area where the hostel is is nice though so you could probably find another hostel in the same location.

“Worst hostel ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2011

This would have to be the worst hostel i have stay in and i have travelled all overthe world... 1. Booked this hostel on hostelclub website when i arrived the manager told me that the rate per night at which we booked did not exist and that we would have pay more US16 not the USD12 (two other guest also told us that they were over charged).
2. The rooms are dirty and the shower in our ensuite bathroom did not work, the bed are unstable to the point of been dangerous had to take the matress off and sleep on the floor. the water heater in the bathroom exploded in the middle of the night burning a fellow room mate with boiling hot water. the room are boiling hot and do not have fans... etc
3. the breakfast is a joke, just stale bread and never any coffee
4. the staff (manager) is not helpfull and is a very dishonest person
5. the hostel is in the complete wrong part of town so you have to get the bus everywhere..
6. the hostel is very poorly maintained

Stay in this hostel at your if you like to live dangerously..

“AWESOME HOSTEL!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2010

One of the best hostels i've been to! At the minute i arrived i felt really comfortable there.. the staff is great! They organize EXCELLENT BBQs!
Pocitos (the neighborhood where it is) is the safest in Montevideo, so you don't have to worry about getting there late!

“You decide...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2010

Personally, i think this hostel is way down there and there must be better available for the price in Montevideo.

NEGATIVES:
- Locks on lockers are laughable - little eyelets for you to put a padlock through that can be pulled out by hand.
- No hot water in the morning.
- Staff coming into our dorm at 2am, slamming the light on, and talking in full volume to new arrivals about the benefits of the hostel - totally thoughtless.
- SO LOUD! It doesnt matter which way your room faces, they have seating areas front and back and a bar in the middle open til 1am. People sat outside our window talking and drinking til at least 2 or 3am both days.
- No locks on the room doors at all.
- Windows on all rooms are left open all night and day so the rooms are full of mosquitos.
- Only one of the 4 showers is actually useable, the others drip or have no shower head connection.
- I wish there had been something other than coffee (drinks wise) for breakfast.. but thats just a personal thing.. i think there should always be an option for people who dont drink it.

POSITIVES:
- Apart from the woman who barged into our room at 2am, the staff are actually lovely and very helpful.
- The hostel is spotlessly clean and the staff work very hard to keep it that way.
- There are lots of outside areas to sit and meet people. (A positive if youre not the one trying to sleep!)
