“A nice welcome home to the orient express group”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We hadn't stayed with orient express since luang prabang in September and we picked up right where we left off with this hotel group. Warm welcome, beautiful grounds, well managed and just an amazing overall experience that we will come back to time and again. Thanks for the great stay and we look forward to our next visit.

“Peaceful and beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We loved this hotel - stayed with my sister in a spacious, well-decorated room with two huge double beds and a fab balcony overlooking the lovely gardens and urubamba river. Liked the huge shower as it felt like you were outdoors (but couldn't be seen by anyone). Beautiful gardens were extremely well cared for - highlight was feeding the baby llama and alpaca. Food was excellent and outside hot tub (in the spa with all associated treatments) was ingenious 'back to nature' touch. A few days R&R here, on the way to/from Machu Pichu or Cusco are recommended - plus Ollayantambo is just down the road (we hitched a lift on one of the pickups that speed up and down full of locals, but obviously the hotel can organise transport too). Orient Express had only just taken over this hotel when we went last year, and I expect the service levels (which we thought were already high) to go from strength to strength.

Room Tip: all the rooms face the river, built onto a slight hill. there are lots of steps so if you have mobil...

“Serene, beautiful, WONDERFUL”

This hotel was fantastic. We checked in on our way to Manchu Pichu and were immediately in love with the room, the gardens, and the staff. We had a wonderful massage in the spa, then went to dinner where we had a great dinner and wine.

The staff was courteous, spoke English (and refrained from giggling at my Spanish), and seemed to truly be interested in our comfort. I would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat!

“3 days at the Rio Sagrado Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We spent 3 wonderful nights here. The hotel ground are on the Urubamba River and you can lie in hammocks listening to the flow of the river, surrounded by the Andes and nudged by Apu, the curious resident Alpaca.
You don’t feel as if you are in a hotel, rooms a spacious and wonderful bed linen and cushions help you sleep. The grounds absorb the guests. The staff are attentive and very friendly. The food was delicious and fresh.
A couple of outings in the area make the stay worthwhile. The spa is well appointed, steam rooms and spa baths available to all at no extra cost.
Internet connections are excellent.
I can truly recommend it.

Room Tip: Lower floors close to the restaurant and spa are more restful

“Tranquil sojourn”

We stayed here with my sister and our families in one of the villas. It was very well appointed, spacious and private. The grounds were a haven with the peaceful sound of the river, lovely grounds and tranquil vista. We enjoyed the food - very fresh and approachable - the staff were very obliging in meeting our requests. The barbecue night with local entertainment was very memorable. The staff were very thoughtful and attentive. The spa and sun deck was very relaxing. My 10 year old son loved the opportunity to feed the baby alpacas. We were here for 2 nights but it would have been nice to linger longer and enjoy the adventure port activities that were available.

Room Tip: Watch the under floor heating- we had it on and it was very toasty.

Dear Anluise,
Thank you for sharing your experiences at Hotel Rio Sagrado on Trip Advisor.

As I mentioned in previous replies, these positive comments are very grateful and motivating for our staff and myself. We have a stunning site here and with the staff we are able to reinforce this location and make sure our guests are able to enjoy it as intensely as possible.

I can share with you that we are planning an upgrade to the rooms where we will look into a more efficient and energy friendly heating system.

In any case, I am pleased you enjoyed your time with us!
