“Great Character”

We really enjoyed our stay at this charming little hotel. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable, had plenty of hot water. Our window (and the restaurant) had a great view of the ruins, and also of the little square below where the vendor ladies sold breakfast and snacks to the school kids and workers in the morning. Fun to watch. Breakfast was excellent, exceptional breads and what tasted like homemade jams.
It's very convenient to the ruins, and also to the main square with several choices for dinner. Note the trade-off for that room in the front, you're on the main street through town. One would not expect that this little street is the main route for large trucks serving the gas fields many miles away, so it was pretty noisy well into the night. A room away from the front would be much quieter.

Room Tip: Rooms closest to the street are noisy from truck traffic.

“Perfect Location for Inca Fortress and Sacred Valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

Sauce Hostal is more like a small boutique hotel or bed & breakfast; the place is small but has private ensuite rooms. We had a nice corner room with one window that had a awesome view of the Inca Fortress ruins and another window that faced other Incan structures on the side of a towering mountain and part of the small city. The room is basic/simple but nicely appointed with an ensuite bathroom with shower. There was plenty of hot water, towels, amenities, etc... The breakfast room is buffet style with the usual offerings, eggs/omlets were offered on request. The location of the hotel is within walking distance of shopping, cafes, city plaza, churches and the Incan Fortress as well as other Incan structures. The streets are original and therefore very narrow, there was an original water channel structure still in operation from the in can period. The hotel is either a 20 minute walk downhill or a 5 minute taxi ride to the
Macchu Pichu Train station to either go to Macchu Pichu or to Cusco. The staff at the hotel/hostel were helpful but spoke little to no English which can be an issue if you don't speak any Spanish. No real complaints about the place, we were very satisfied, if you recognize it is just a small modest boutique hotel or b&b and accept it as such.

“Basic, but Functional”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Stayed here one night on trip through Sacred Valley. It is basic. Very basic. But clean and functional. Tiny stream runs right by hotel, which is a nice 'white noise' calming effect. Very convenient to ruins and small town square/plaza. Only complaint is the "24 hour hot water" is less than 24 hours. After trying to start a shower, had to get dressed and go downstairs to ask where the hot water was, only to learn that they needed to 'turn it on'. 5 minutes later I did have plentiful hot water. Breakfast is a little less than what you see in other similar class Peruvian hotels, but with only 6 rooms in the hotel, you can understand why.

“Warm family style hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

Small quaint hotel with family hospitality. Very friendly & helpful staff welcoming us & taking our bags to our rooms upon arrival. Rooms spacious & clean, comfortable beds, hot wonderful shower, & free wi-fi. Had water bottles in room replenished daily along with choc candy & small souvenir. Portable heaters & electrical converter available upon request. Only issues were the fireplace smoke from downstairs drifted upwards to our rooms & the hardwood floors make foot traffic outside the rooms more noticeable but overall a very comfy home style atmosphere. Breakfast was simple but plentiful & eggs cooked per individual requests. Loved the fact that the hotel was so close to the ruins, town square, restaurant & train station making the location ideal. The owner made all feel so welcomed in her home/hotel.

Room Tip: Can ask for room with the view of the ruins or river view.

“Terrific hotel near notable ruins”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

I booked Hotel Sauce for my family's trip to the Sacred Valley, and Graciela and her staff were wonderful hosts. The place is beautiful, the rooms were comfortable, and we were very central to the Ollantaytambo ruins as well as to the town centers -- the square and the road up from the train station. Graciela is very helpful in getting wake up calls and helping you arrange for transport, if you need it.
