“ok for 1 or 2 nights”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

On the bright side this hostel is in good location if you on a way to travel by bus to other destination, also not far from Miraflores or city centre (by taxi and they are cheap in Peru). Staff was wery nice and helpful, but not the owner. Breakfast was also good and served with big smile:-) On the not so bright side this hostel is old, needs major renovation and maintnance work and it's not very clean. So if you are looking for cheap place for a night or 2 you will survive, but I wouldn't recomend for longer stay or even for short if you need some comfort.

“We missed the flight”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

The room was OK. The bathroom did not have hot water. Looked like someone above us could see our bathroom. The bath area was deep and I was afraid of slipping into it. The front desk person charged me $6 more than was promissed. She arranged the taxi for next day for 8 am for our 10:45 am flight. We wanted to leave @ 7:30 but the lady assured us that 8:30 would be sufficient. We were at the airport at 9 am but were told that the gates were closed. We were lucky to get the 11:45 flight. If didn't get it then our trip would have been a mess. If you are catching a flight in Lima, make sure you are there 2 hours before hand.

“Brilliant hostel for a fantastic price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

The hostel is in a great location and you can get a taxi to anywhere for next to nothing. The area seemed quite safe too me and my husband walked 12 blocks down the main road in the dark and felt safe enough especially as it is south America. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially the sweet girl that cooks the breakfast!! Ask them anything and they will always help. The hostel has everything you need from cards, monopoly to table tennis and DVDs. The rooms are basic but clean and showers basic but clean and hot water!! It was quiet in the evenings and other guests were ver conciderate. The airport pick up was a little overpriced but very prompt and reliable. Overall a great stay what more can you ask for this price!

“Out of the way but better for it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

Didn't plan on staying here but it was the closest to the bus station when we were dropped of (all the long distance bus companies have terminals 15 min walk away) and turned out to be a great find. Friendly helpful staff, plenty of space to lounge around including a suntrap garden, decent breakfast and wifi. Rooms are basic but clean and the neighbourhood is very safe with a lot of police patrol as it is on a business area.

There are two supermarkets close by which have everything you need. The bus to the centre is a 5 min walk away and takes 10-15 min to reach the main area. Very reasonably priced and overall highly recommended.

“Great choice to start your Peru trip, close to long distance busses”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2011

We booked a double room by email a few days prior to arriving in Lima. Our mail was promptly answered in very good English and when we arrived at Lima airport, our pickup service was waiting right after immigration, as the Hostel previously communicated. We decided to spend the $14 for airport pickup for safety reason, and considering that a taxi would cost around $12 it's well worth the extra money.

The staff at Hostal Malka is friendly and accommodating. When we checked in we were given a map of the area and she explained where the nearest bus stops and supermarkets are.

Rooms are small but comfortable. The mattresses are good quality but a bit on the short side if you are over 1.80m tall.
The kitchen is big and well equipped, the TV room is the most comfortable of the common areas, while the dining tables are a bit crammed and in a dark area.
There is wifi and 3 PC's for guest use (free)

Breakfast (inclusive) is big and tasty with 2 eggs freshly prepared to taste, even a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice is inclusive.

The rooms, showers, and common areas are spotless and don't have a moldy smell anymore, as one of the previous reviews highlighted.

The location in San Isidro (and hostel itself) is not a the location for you if you are into partying all night.
This is a rather quiet place with mostly couples staying overnight. But fairly central to explore the various areas of (historical center, Lince, Miraflores, Barranca) and it's very close to the major bus companies on Av Javier Prado. Cruz del Sur is a 5-10 minute taxi ride away.

We will stay at Malka again when we pass through Lima on our way north.

Room Tip: Room 10 is big and quiet, facing the backyard
