We booked a double room by email a few days prior to arriving in Lima. Our mail was promptly answered in very good English and when we arrived at Lima airport, our pickup service was waiting right after immigration, as the Hostel previously communicated. We decided to spend the $14 for airport pickup for safety reason, and considering that a taxi would cost around $12 it's well worth the extra money.
The staff at Hostal Malka is friendly and accommodating. When we checked in we were given a map of the area and she explained where the nearest bus stops and supermarkets are.
Rooms are small but comfortable. The mattresses are good quality but a bit on the short side if you are over 1.80m tall.
The kitchen is big and well equipped, the TV room is the most comfortable of the common areas, while the dining tables are a bit crammed and in a dark area.
There is wifi and 3 PC's for guest use (free)
Breakfast (inclusive) is big and tasty with 2 eggs freshly prepared to taste, even a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice is inclusive.
The rooms, showers, and common areas are spotless and don't have a moldy smell anymore, as one of the previous reviews highlighted.
The location in San Isidro (and hostel itself) is not a the location for you if you are into partying all night.
This is a rather quiet place with mostly couples staying overnight. But fairly central to explore the various areas of (historical center, Lince, Miraflores, Barranca) and it's very close to the major bus companies on Av Javier Prado. Cruz del Sur is a 5-10 minute taxi ride away.
We will stay at Malka again when we pass through Lima on our way north.
