I spent 5 nights at the Continental Hotel in May 2011 and I don't have any negatives so far. These are the positives of my experience:
*The staff were friendly and helpful when I needed to know about taxis and fares, places to go, distances, safety issues, restaurants, etc.
*Breakfasts were the same every day but delicious (scramble eggs with ham, coffee and buns, orange juice, etc). I did not eat at the hotel during the day, just mornings so I don't know about other meals.
*The staff in the cafeteria were really nice and shared with me about their lives in Lima and Peru in general.
*The free Internet at the Continental was fast and reliable, and I was able to book my hotel and transportation in Cusco from there.
*My bedroom was pleasantly quiet and clean. The window in my room faced a wall and I was disappointed at the beginning; however, the staff explained that rooms facing the street were a problem as people could not sleep due to the noise and traffic, which is truly bad in Lima.
*The Continental hotel is close to the Jiron de la Union, plazas, museums, and places of interest in Lima, banks, Western Union, restaurants, pubs, etc. Everything is in walking distance from the Continental.
*I want to return to Peru and if I return to Lima, I will stay at the Continental again. I especially like the stairs that you can see in one of the videos (Art Deco I think). Enjoy the videos and let me know if you have any questions!
