“R.A. is the premiere Amazonian destination for Alternative Healing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

I've just recently returned from my second visit to Scott Petersens Refugio Altiplano -- I was just as pleased with the effect of the powerful medicine and pristine environment on my health/ peace of mind as I was my first time around. Scott is a very knowledgable and experienced guide, and the facilities are first class for a jungle lodge. I don't hesitate to recommend R.A. as the #1 choice for travelers who hope to have an authentic Ayahuasca experience and a well-rounded getaway.

““One of a lifetime experience.””

This was my first time in Peru. At first I was a bit apprehensive about the whole trip to a foreign country. When I got there one of the staff came to pick me up from the airport and right away she made me feel safe and at ease!
This is the place to be if you’re looking for an adventure into the jungle, into the Amazon, in addition great food and healing medicine mother Ayahuasca.
The staff treats you like you’re part of their family. Everyone is always smiling and carrying on a great energy. When you’re surrounded by so much love how can you not feel amazing about yourself:)
There is so much to do. You can go kayaking, jungle trip, swimming, sauna, etc. It’s also a great place to forget about your typical life’s attachment back home. It is a place where you can find tremendous joy, energy especially being surrounded by natural Amazonian beauties.
Just like you I read all the reviews before I visited the Refugio, and I found all the reviews to be right on. If you’re looking to find alone time or escape with a group of friends and experience the healing medicine this is the place to be!
This is my favorite place to escape, find inner peace and joy, and I’ll definitely be back next summer for longer stay. Best wishes to your journey into the Amazon:)

Such an amazing place and an amazing experience. Life in the jungle is lovely. Everyone at the Refugio was so genuine, caring, and friendly. I felt at home instantly. The dwellings were definitely more than I expected and the food was so fresh and amazing. I will be returning next year for a longer stay!

“Refugio Altiplano doesn't believe in magic; they work with it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2010

In anticipation of my foray down to the verdant and timeless splendor that is the Amazon Rainforest, I wasn't so sure as to what experiencing the Refugio Altiplano would be like above and beyond actually drinking la medicina, the ayahuasca that called me to make such a pilgrimmage in the first place. I trusted that the visit would be comfortable and relatively smooth; what I actually experienced was head and shoulders above anything I could have imagined. Scott Petersen is a supremely gifted and humble human being who uses his abilities/ facilities to heal, revitalize, energize and inspire, to imbue those travelers fortunate enough to cross his path with an extraordinary sense of having having come full circle. The Amazon channels its archaic techniques of ecstacy into the open-hearted initiate, using Scott and his benevolent staff of locals as a conduit. The airport pick-up, food, accomadations, activities( kayaking, fishing, hiking, climbing, sauna, relaxing in hammocks), the people, setting, and most importantly the ayahuasca ceremonies- Everything is 100% genuine, and I have already made plans with several of the travelers I met during my stay to return at the same time next year. When considering a top of the line jungle lodge experience, whether to imbibe or not the ayahuasca medicine, Refugio Altiplano is the only choice you one can make that will ensure an expectation confounding experience.

“My stay at the Refugio Altiplano”

Refugio Altiplano is an amazing place. This trip turned out to be my greatest holiday ever. Being a worldtraveller having spent 5 years in South East Asia that says it all. At the Refugio Altiplano there is an incredible wildlife scenario. You are basically living in the middle of the Amazon jungle in a beautiful housing, giving you the jungle feeling.
Scott Petersen has a operation smooth as silk. You can tell he knows how to furfill all our westerners needs and wishes. During my stay I have come to know Scott after many of my endless questions and some of our long conversations. He was sharing his wit generously always warm with humor and making sure you are comfortable.
The food is exellent. I was always looking forward to the next meal. It is as healthy as you could want it to be and very tasteful.
I went on many excursions both day and night. Jungle tours, swimming, fishing, taking sauna and kajaking.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I got to know a few of the staff during the stay. They where happy and easy going and even teaching some spanish. Fun!
I had 7 ayahuasca ceremonies at the Refugio Altiplano. This actually being my purpose of the stay. I was not disapointed. Insights, visions and some strong self realisation made this particular trip complete.
Wish that I could have stayed much longer. But I am happy to have found this special place. Already looking forward to come back.
