HOTEL REVIEW # 201 Casa Cartagena
MY TRAVEL STYLE: If possible, I try to stay away from business hotels and strongly prefer resorts that resemble the Four Seasons, Aman, and Oberoi but try to find similar properties at lower cost. I seek out the “wow” experiences.
LOCATION: Excellent. Surrounded by restaurants and city sights and on a more quiet street in a nice area.
BEST WAY TO GET THERE: Hotel car will pick you up from the airport for around 25 soles (about $8). Safest option is to hire the hotel car or be sure to research which taxis are safe before getting one. About a 15 minute drive to the hotel from the airport.
TYPE OF ROOM:
Royal Suite. Absolutely huge room with two stories, massage room with sauna, huge Jacuzzi tub could probably fit 8 people.
BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Bed could have been a little more soft but still very comfortable. Very high quality linens and down pillows were nice.
LIGHTING: Great lighting in room and bathroom.
BATHROOM/SHOWER: Very luxurious bathroom and excellent shower with great water pressure.
TOILETRIES: Very high quality.
CLEANLINESS: Hotel and room are very clean.
CLOSET SPACE: Tons of space for 2 people to unpack all items.
STYLE OF ROOM: Contemporary and full of style. Didn’t want to leave!
COMMON AREA: Nice courtyard. Hotel definitely is very new so don’t have the historical charm of the monsterio next door but if you want new and clean, this place is excellent (just be sure to have a drink at the monasterio).
QUIET/MORNING LIGHT: Our room was very quiet and most of the morning sunlight could be blocked if wanting to sleep in.
FOOD: We were given some appetizers that were very delicious but we never ate any meals here.
TV/INTERNET: Didn’t use the TV. Internet is complementary and was fast for Peru (wifi).
SERVICE: Staff was really amazing! They kept impressing us and really did what they could to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. There was a slight error with the service but they took the opportunity to make the situation better than if it never happened at all.
SUMMARY: Definitely a great choice if looking for a perfect location in a newer, hip hotel in Cusco. Highly recommended. I also stayed at Monasterio and Aranwa.
Room Tip: royal suite is amazing!
