The location is great! very near the Plaza des Armas, just 2 blocks. In front of hotel is the main entrance of st catalina convent.

We stayed here for two nights at the end of our trip to Peru. We didn't have reservation but found our way to the hotel after a bus ride from Puno. The hotel is beautiful and has lots of character. The only negative was that they seem to be in the mddle of a renovation (although we never heard them working) so there were holes in walls and other unsightly elements. But it wasn't too much of a distraction. Another big plus is location. The hotel is just blocks away from the main plaza, nightlife, restuarants and shopping, and we felt very safe walking at night.

In november I stayed two nights in La Posada del Monasterio. I liked the hotel very much: it was a great location and the building was very historical. Also breakfast was very good. I had some trouble in paying with my Mastercard on november 15th; this was going very difficult, but when I finally could sign something, I made a joke: 'I don't hope I payed double now!'.
I liked the hotel so much that when I was in Arequipa again 2 weeks later, I stayed there again, but then I had to sleep in a very noisy room: you could here the music of a disco in the neighborhood very loud.
A greater disappointment however was the fact that I really had payed double with my Mastercard! On november 15th I payed 341 soles (or 87,50 euros) two times. I immediately sent a mail to La Posada del Monasterio and they answered that they would give the money back. But one monthe later: nothing. I sent the same mail again in January: still nothing, not even an e-mail. In March I sent the same e-mail fot the third time. Again: nothing; no answer, no money!

You cannot beat the location of this hotel for the price. The staff were nice with decent breakfast. The only problem is that this hotel appears to be under renovation with possible lack of funds due to the blotched repairs throughout the hotel. The lobby is charming but once you climb the stairs to the rooms you will notice broken windows, holes in the floors, paint drippings on the floor. Rooms are old but comfortable. Showers water pressure is less to be desired. Free internet access in lobby.
