“A cosy and familiar place”

I visited the Pata Pata Hostel in the middle of November 2011. It is a very welcoming, cosy, creative and familiar place where guests can feel really comfortable.
The staff is more than friendly and openminded to talk with the guests also in a personal manner. Rooms are clean, they have a nice kitchen and you get everything you need.
Moreover, the interior design is warm, charming and creative. One of the best breakfasts I had in a hostel on my backpacking trip through Latinamerica!
I can really recommend this place to people who prefer small and individual hostels!

“I wish I could live here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

So Valpo is an amazing colourful bohemian city and this hostel is all these things and more. The staff are amazing and the hostel facilities are fabulous! I arrived at 6am and was let in by other guests who were still up partying from night before (but thoughtfully doing this outside he hostel!) I slept on the sofa and when the manager/owner arrived at 8 he didn't wake me up but just gave me a blanket. The family which own it are so friendly and their son is so cute. It feels like home as soon as you two in the door. The breakfasts are so nuch better than I've had at any other hostel with fruit salad, bread (which isn't sweet), interesting flavoured jam and eggs! They have a TV room and loads of fab movies too! Love it!

“Great hostel, great location, great people”

We stayed in a 4 bed dorm in Patapata - beds are comfy, showers are good, plenty of hot water available all the time. We cooked our own meals in the kitchen, which has everything you need. The outdoor bbq is great too. The hostel is very welcoming, and the staff went out of their way to help us. Lots of tips of what to do in the local area, and everything is within easy walking distance. Highly recommend staying in Patapata

“The friendliest hostel people I have ever met!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

We stayed to days in order to find an alojamiento as we stay here for five months. PataPata was the perfect place to start discovering Valpo. It's on the beautiful cerro alegre and not only the surroundings but the hostel itself is so colourful! The price is very fair, the kids are so sweet and the breakfast excellent! (Loved the Mexican Cheese Sandwich!) We were so touched by the friendliness they showed us every day. They really helped us in finding an apartment, as one of the assistents probably knows every "piedra" of Valparaiso, they let us stay in their private room and prepared breakfast for us earlier as we had to go to the university. We were kind of sad to leave the hostel, but are sure that we will visit and do a tour with the "expert" of the hostel.

“Great atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

This was the only hostel that I stayed in in South America that offered both a friendly, helpful, family atmosphere, (the manager and his family live on site as well as the assistant) as well as a fantastic open environment, full of life and easy to meet other travelers. Colourfully decorated and immaculately clean, with the best breakfast I have ever had in a hostel, (including real coffee).

The location couldn't be beaten, in a safe, quiet, beautiful neighbourhood, with excellent restaurants within meters of the front door, and a 5 min walk from cheap eats places and nightlife. Great panoramas of this remarkable city just out the window in the breakfast area.

Staff are helpful, the assistant manager speaks English and French and went out with us for a few drinks several times at night to show us the local spots. Alejandro, the manager, is the perfect gentleman and his two young children are excellently behaved to the point that you would never notice that they were there half the time.
