“Dissapointing”

Good food is central to my life and therefore too to my trips. For this reason our visit to Europeo was a big let down, especially at that price. Considered by local food critics as one the top Santiago restaurants, and Chef/owner Carlos something as Nº1 chef, based on my one visit, the food is not up to the standard one gets in Spain for a similar price (around 60€ a head for the menú desgutación). Service is great and the food OK, but nothing at all inspiring, nor spectacular which is what I'm after at that price. Nothing I ate sticks in my mind and I'd much sooner spend less on something simple. The overall level of what europeans would consider 'Gastronomic/michelin-starred type' restaruants in Chile in not amazing and it's probably wiser to spend one's money in restaurants centred more typical, local dishes.

“Outstanding, fresh ingredients - personalized attention”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2010

We were greeted by the owner and were lucky enough to be seated immediately. Our orders were impeccably taken and executed, appetizers (salads), main dishes (seafood), as well as desserts (fresh fruit) contained first class ingredients. Our special mention to the fruit used in the dessert, which was very nicely presented and had a flavor as we had not tasted it in a very long time.
In essence, true cuisine de marché, where obtaining only the best ingredients is of utmost importance.
The smoking section is well separated from non-smoking, thus not interfering with the flavors (which in Chile is rather the exception than the rule).
With regards to service, we observed that the owner repeatedly had to instruct waiters in order to deliver good service (hence not the top rating) - thus raising questions as to what happens in the owner's absence. Still, this is where we were best served and had the best overall dining experience during our 15 days in Chile.

“Best meal in Santiago”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2009

Terrific dining experience.
Excellent staff, european with a South American twist.
Charming chef came out to help us with the menu, as we struggled with our spanish and waiter with his english. They just wanted to please, and please they did.Food excellent, ingredients fresh ( many grown on Chef's farm) Best of the best, must try on any vacation looking for great service, and gourmet food preparation in a quiet charming space.

“Very Enjoyable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2009

My husband and I ate dinner at Europeo (it was recommended by the concierge at our hotel). The restaurant is very attractive, and the service was attentive (although not warm). There's an excellent wine list, and we got to try some Chilean wine we can't get back home. The food was really good. If we went to Europeo again, we'd share a single starter -- they're more than enough for two.

Note for diners who don't speak Spanish: the staff did not speak English, but the menu has translations.

“The most european restaurant in Santiago”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2009

The restaurant is in a very good location. After waiting at the waiting table for 5 minutes for the reserved table, we were seated. Sophisticated, but cosy place, with very charming atmosphere, good lighting (spots perfectly adjusted over each table). The surprise was the 600 to 1000-thread-count Egyptian cotton for table clothing and napkings. The service was very good with a very good wine selection. Our choice of wine was a little bit warmer than it should be. After ordering sparkling water, they brought a bottle of an expensive San Pellegrino. They could have asked which water to bring. The bread could also be warmer. For the main courses we went for the Wagyu Tenderloin Steak (chef's choice). For those who don´t know it is a must. European portions (just right for me). For desert, the combined selection of 9 different deserts was spetacular. Very good Illy expresso, and very good service.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
