“Fine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Stayed here for one night as part of a 2-week honeymoon. It was all fine - rooms, food, service, ambience, facilities - as one would expect from a hotel of this Group. Didn't take my breath away or have any fun surprises to set it apart from competing hotels. Probably a good place to spend a business trip or weekend citybreak - no complaints.

Rooms are a very nice size....bathrooms are fabulous....but the service right from the front desk at check in to the restaurant is highly average. The pool side area is nice for a drink.
Very well located ..and close to orchard road.
I'm not sure if I would stay here given the service which was average.

Room Tip: Some rooms don't have enough sun

“Use to be much better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I've stayed at the St Regis for more than a dozen times over the past 4 years since they've opened. I can only say with regrets that the service level at this hotel had dropped dramatically in this time.

The first time I checked in to this hotel, the doorman greeted me politely, asked for my name, discreetly informed his other colleagues via the wireless and everyone was addressing me by my last name throughout my stay. SPG Plat members could order any one drink off the menu at the very chic Astor Bar. The butler service was professional and prompt. Those things, and other attention to fine details, brought me back time and again, on both business and personal account. I believe in good service and willingly pay for it out of my wallet.

Service has dropped steadily over the year as the hotel started to fill out and I presume with staff turnover. To their credit, St Regis has always tried to improve and given time, rectify the situation (seasoned guests: Remember how long the breakfast line at La Brasserie was in the early years).

But this has to be the worse service I have encountered. The reception was cold and scripted. There was no more the warmth and friendliness from the previous year. "The best room" they can offer me, which is an SPG Plat upgrade as I am informed, is on the 4th floor, just above and facing the swimming pool. Nothing else is available for the duration of my stay (2 nights). After pressing a little, a higher floor room was offered, but was made to wait for more than an hour, with no offer of coffee or tea. The SPG Plat drinks are now at the poolside bar and now restricted to house pours.

Look - If you are lucky to get an experienced reception staff to check you in or can stomach the average service of a newbie, the rooms are pretty new and pretty nice. Location is a little off the main thoroughfare on Orchard Road but still within walking distance or bus / cab away. Just don't expect additional SPG Plat service at this hotel anymore. I won't be in future.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Orchard Road have a nice green view. Those facing the back looks into the living room o...

“Wonderful Hotel, Pure Incompetence with an Ample Dose of Arrogance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

There is no doubt that this hotel is one of the very best in Singapore. The rooms, restaurants and facilities are excellent. The staff however, aside from a few, clearly originate from a different planet and many are either incompetent at their job, arrogant in their treatment of guests, ignorant of sensitivities (e.g. with respect to halal food), just plain rude or display a combination of these traits. The GM opted to selectively respond to a list of serious issues experienced and endeavoured to gloss over the problems by stressing how privileged I should feel to be afforded a suite upgrade for the final 36 hrs of my 5 night stay. Starwood Corporate gave generic answers one would expect of someone who clearly hadn't digested the full extent of what I'd encountered on what was intended to be a relaxing break. All rather insulting. Frankly the property and the guests who stay there deserve infinitely better.

“Wonderful hotel - highly recommend”

Just spent three nights at the hotel on the way home. A perfect choice, location fantastic at the top of Orchard Road, so easy walking distance to the shops. Check-in was excellent, although our room was not ready when we arrived (despite being after check-in time) - we were offered refreshments in the lounge which was very nice. The room was fantastic - king bed, plus rollaway for our son - still so much space to move around as these rooms are really very spacious. Fantastic bathroom & fittings. Butler service was excellent. Breakfast buffet was superb, all staff that we encountered were more than friendly & helpful. Had coffee & dinner by the pool, again excellent service. Thank you for making our stopover in Singapore very memorable. We will certainly be back.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the lift on a high floor - we did not hear anything at all!
