“A bit pricey for what is on offer”

I am writing this whilst still here.

The Pros-good location as its close to the shops and restaurants; staff are very warm and friendly; internet service was very fast and easy to connect to. I have often found this a clhallenge in some other hotels I have been to.
The cons - i think breakfast tine should be extended because of travellers who come from different time zones. We travelled all the way from Nigeria, and couldn't get to bed before 3am, and obviously, we got up way after breakfast. I also think the choices should be expanded . The one time we made it for breakfast, the scrambled egg looked most uninviting.
The cleaners came in/come in daily, but do very little - they change the sheets and towels without prompting, but other than that, little else was done. After "cleaning" the bathrooms, there were still signs of toothpaste marks, dried water marks on the shower door, i had to prompt the cleaners to empty the bins in the rooms more than twice. In addition, we found tubes under the bed that belonged to obviously some other occupant. Now i wonder how long that had been there; it shows the lack of thoroughness in the cleaning exercise.

“Top rate staff... though pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2010

This is my second time staying at Regency House. The first was 1.5 years ago when my son was 14 months old. On that occasion, we stayed in the Studio Apartment. Like many who have remarked before me, the bathroom was tiny. Nonetheless, I was grateful for the kitchenette and washing machine, having a toddler around.

On this visit, we stayed in the premium 2-bedroom apartment. It was very spacious including a nice sized bathroom with a bathtub! However, like the studio apartment's, there was no shelf in the standing shower. Shampoo, shower gels & specs all have to be placed precariously on the floor.

Some things to note for management & housekeeping, while I appreciate the housekeeping service, sheets & even towels do not have to be changed everyday! That's a huge waste of resources if you ask me.

Secondly, my main grouse with breakfast is that it ends at 0930. While I understand that most folks will have left for the office by that hour, there are many families staying at RH who will appreciate a later breakfast. To be fair, the lounge stays open and some items are left out until 10 or so, but items that run out by 0920 aren't replenished anymore.

Finally, it is very pricey. How much do I value the microwave & washing machine? Perhaps that $100 or so extra per night above the rate of a 5 star hotel at Orchard? Another thing, we extended our fortnight stay by 2 weeks. Unfortunately, we will still be charged by the weekly rate instead of a monthly rate which will be significantly cheaper. The 'reason' given was that the system couldn't be changed. That may be so but that's BS to a customer. In the end, we'll cut short our stay at RH and move on to Royal Plaza on Scotts, a 5-star hotel, S$150/night cheaper.

The only saving grace that makes this hotel differentiate itself from all the other serviced apartments or hotels that I've stayed in is the staff. From Faris the doorman, Sheela & Karamjit at reception, to Alice at the breakfast lounge, they all made me feel like I was coming 'home'.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review to compliment Regency House Serviced Residence and our staff. It is such compliments that will spur our staff to continue to provide excellent service to our all guests.

We take note of your comments on the breakfast hours. We have extended our breakfast hours to 1000hrs instead of 0930hrs. As for the shelvings in the bathroom, we take note of this and will be installing it at all our bathrooms.

We look forward to welcoming you to Regency House on your next visit.

“Dated and not clean enough! Though friendly staff & nice location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2009

I've been staying at the Regency House for a few months now (it's a serviced apartment after all) and I'm really fed up with the place.

Although my room is generally nice and well furnished, most of the appliances are quite old and not working the best. The TV is an old bulky CRT Philips - a model which is probably at least 10 yrs old. So is the washing mashine, which shortest washing cycle takes over two hours! The microwave hardly works (fortunately I don't have to use it anyway).

The room is cleaned daily, however if you look close in the corners, behind the appliances, etc. you'd noticed they have not been cleaned for months. And the A/C vent and its surroundings looks disgusting, covered with dirt/mold. I think the management should have cleaning staff focus on details like this, rather than daily change of towels (which really isn't neccessary, and certainly does not do the environment a favor).

Another thing that's irritating is the view from the window - the next building is just 20 or 30 meters away so you can forget about direct sunlight in the room. This won't bother you if you are here just for a few days, but if you are staying long term you'll be annoyed by the fact you have to have the lights switched even at noon to have the room well lit!
Of course, you can choose the other side of the building and have a nice view at the park... and the noisy street below which will not let you sleep until late night. And in the morning you'd woken up by the noisy houseekepers who chat on the hallway and push their carts on tiled floors, making a lot of noise.

Breakfast is provided on weekdays, but after some time I couldn't look at it anymore. The milk, cereal and toasts are ok, but the disgusting sausages and scrambled eggs with no taste (most likely made from powder) put me away.

Also, the bathroom is tiny, but that has already been covered in other reviews.

As for the positive sides, I have to say that all the staff is very friendly and helpful. I also love the pool (located at the top floor) - a very nice place to relax. Finally, the most important advantage (and probably the sole reason for which the Regency House manages to stay in the business) is the location - close to the shopping and entertainment district of Orchard Road, within walking distance of many attractions.

Dear W0rldTraveller71

Greetings from Regency House.

Thank you for your feedback, both negative and postitive.

We will definitely be relooking the electrical appliances especially the TV sets. We have been slowly replacing starting from the 3 Bedroom apartments and we do hope that we will be able to complete the replacement of the current TV's with a really good sized LCD TV's.

After the two recent reviews including yours, we have reviewed our cleaning standards and inspection standards to ensure we will be able to deliver the level of service expected by all our customers.

Once again I thank you for your feedback.

“Better Elsewhere with infant or small children who need help in the bathroom”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

I am currently writing this review while I am still staying at this service apartment. The pros of this place is that it is very close to Orchard Rd where you can shop until your hearts content. The staff seems to greet guests every time we walk through the door with a smile on their face and the last positive comment is that the breakfast seems quite reasonable. It is served from 7:30-9:30 Monday - Friday only. The breakfast today included pastries (i.e. croissants, apple turnover, and a raisin bread). They also service fresh fruit, toast, cereal, cold cut, and had beans available today. Two choices of juice, whole milk and water available for your thirst.

Cons: Bathroom, bathroom, bathroom!!! It is an after thought to include the bathroom in the rooms! I managed to book my travel on wotif.com after doing some research on an alternative place to stay with my 6 month old daughter, brother in law, husband and myself. We thought it would be more comfortable, but I was wrong! After doing research and looking at the East Plaza website pictures I think they are bogus. The bathroom is the smallest I have ever seen for any sort of "hotel" or "condo" sort of establishment. I've been to Hong Kong and their hotel rooms are small but the bathroom here is smaller than any in Hong Kong or any place I have ever stayed before. There is only a single small sink, no towel racks (not enough room), no power outlet for a curling iron, a small stall for the toilet, and a very small shower. How do they expect any parent to bathe their child in this place? They offered a cheap small plastic basin that looks good enough to clean my clothes in. My daughter hated it last night. If you have ever been on a cruise, it is only slightly bigger than a cruise ship bathroom.

The place is also not clean. It is gross to see someone else's hair on the wall of the shower that has been stuck on there for the past three days I have been here. I also have noticed dried water stain marks on the floor of the toilet side of the bathroom. The dark tiles help hide what really lurks there which I presume is unclean floors. I can see the dirt, grime, mold and mildew on the corners of the doors which are never wiped clean. The doors to the bathroom have had problems and has a ton of plaster stuck on it which was not sanded properly or even painted to match the door color. Pink food residue is also stuck on the fridge door that could easily be wiped off if it was cleaned properly. Greasy toaster and inadequate warm water. After 10 minutes of showering, you will feel the cold cold water pour on you and the next person taking a shower will have shivers going down their spine.

What really disappointed me was the response I received from the staff for a 2 bathroom room to at least give us a tub in one of the bathrooms. Our flight came in late so we took whatever room was assigned to us. I was already disappointed to find there was only one bathroom because none of the descriptions ever said we would only get one bathroom. We spoke to the receptionist the next day and he unfortunately told us that everything was booked with two bathrooms but on Monday we would likely be able to change rooms. Come Monday when we called there was another person at the receptionist area, Annie. After she said she looked hard (which I highly doubt), she said for what we paid on wotif.com we were paying cheaper than what they charge per room now so she tried to tell us to take our complaint to wotif.com. She also didn't want to help us since we went to an alternative website to book our reservation. We asked what the difference in price is per night because we were willing to pay for it if it made us more comfortable but she did not even acknowledge our request. Apparently she felt she was inferior so she didn't want to help us. If you want to work with a snobby staff then this is the place for you.

You can find better staff and rooms for the price ($192 usd/night what I paid) around here. At least a nice hotel but without a kitchen. Stay away from room 0308.

If you need to borrow their free use of a crib, pass on it. They need to build it and coming from America, there are definitely safety standards that it does not pass. The mattress they provide is way too soft. It could cause suffocation as I know my daughter sometimes flips and sleeps tummy down. Looks like it could be a crib from 20 years ago. Most good hotels would at least provide a pack n' play.

The room also takes on a ton of noise from the street. At all hours of the day/night you can hear cars zooming through the road. We can also hear knocks on the other tenants doors. The AC unit does not work very well according to the temperature it is set on. One minute it will blast cold air and the next, it will not blow any amount of air for a good portion of the time. It made us sweat during the night and shiver at the next.

At night the staff locks the front door so you will need a key to access through it after hours. If your flight comes in late after midnight make sure to call early to let them know you will arrive late. It will look as if the place is deserted and will begin to panic that you have nowhere to stay. We kept ringing the doorbell until someone came 5 minutes later from the back with a taxi still running on our time.

Dear zulan78

Thank you for your open and candid review of the property.

The issue you have cited on the cleanliness and attitudes of the staff are not acceptable and not a measure of the standards we pride ourselves in.

With regard to our service failures to you and your family, we have reviewed our shortcomings and dealt with the staff concerned.

As for the apartment and size of the bathroom- Unfortunately, we were indeed completely full that 2 month period and that was one of the few smaller 2 Bedroom apartments we have.

We are glad that you have been open and shared your feedback as it will definitely help us deal with these issues immediately.
