We booked a family villa at Buri Resort for 4 nights and availed of their private van pickup and boat transfer (both highly recommended) each costing PHP7,000 return. Left Makati at 8AM and arrived at the resort at 11:15AM. Land transfer was okay but our boat ride was a different story. After sailing smoothly for 15 minutes the ride became a bit rough and lasted until we reached the resort.
At the Buri wharf, we were met by Jerome with the complimentary arrival drinks and a smiling Kathy Nantes. The rough ride was forgotten almost immediately especially when we were taken to our villa. It is true to the pictures that we saw on the internet, actually the entire resort is! What you see is what you get.
During our stay we ordered most of our meals from the resort and all we can say is compliments to the cook! Manang Josie’s dishes were always a delight. We have to confess though that after browsing through the menu on our first day that we weren’t too impressed by what we thought was a very limited selection. But the Grilled Pork Chop, Spaghetti Bolognese, Grilled Squid and Cream of Mushroom soup we had for our first lunch there changed our minds. We started to look forward to every meal so we can try another dish.
My kids loved the Spaghetti Bolognese (my daughter had it for lunch and dinner on the same day!), my son was a big fan of the Cream of Mushroom soup he had it 3 times! We also tried their Sinigang na Hipon, Chicken Adobo, Grilled Chicken, Basil Chilli Chicken, Beef Salpicao, Fried Fish Fillet with Tamarind Sauce, Tofu Furai Don, Pancit Bihon and they were all excellent. There were only 4 dessert selections and we tried 3 of them, Filipino Banana Split, Mango Crepe and Brownie Ala Mode. A fitting ending to a very good meal.
One should not be deceived by the simplicity of the menu, the dishes listed may sound like your normal average food fare but the taste takes it to another level which makes dining at Buri Resort an experience in itself.
They can also accommodate requests to cook dishes that are not listed in the menu as long as ample time is given.
TIP: Pre-order your meal to save on waiting time.
My husband and I tried their spa, he had the Buri Ginger Revival Massage(PHP1500) and I had the Coconut Body Glow (PHP2500). Thanks to Mila and Elvie, our therapists for a very relaxing experience. The spa is located right behind our family villa so it was very convenient. It used to be located at the top of the hill according to the staff but they had to move it very close to the bottom of the steps to make it easily accessible. I needed to have a shower after my scrub but the location of the shower room and toilet is a bit awkward as it’s outside the spa room. It doesn’t have a door as well so I had to think of a way to wash off and still have a bit of privacy. It turned out that this is the existing layout of a garden villa which they just converted.
They have complimentary USB’s for broadband internet connection but guests have to ask for it as they don’t give it automatically upon check-in.
Tipping doesn’t seem to be mandatory and there’s no line to write down the amount for tipping purposes on the bill when you settle your account. So what we did was on our last day we left a modest amount to be divided amongst the staff (one key asset of the resort) that made our visit a pleasant one.
Our boat ride back to Batangas was relaxing, thanks to the calm waters and the cool breeze, what a way to end our wonderful visit to Puerto Galera.
