“Great stay!! I recommend”

My wife and myself have been travelling around the Philippines from Canada for the last 2 months, and have been from Ilocos Norte to Mindoro and everywhere in between. Most of our stay has been here in Oriental Mindoro, and Puerto Galera was an obvious choice for a 5 day getaway, so without knowing much about the town or resorts available, I picked Tamaraw based solely on the website. Knowing the Philippines, I fully expected SOMETHING to be wrong, either with the reosrt or the room, but I was proven wrong right away. The location is perfect, a short walk from White Beach, which is busy and chaotic on weekends, while Aninuan Beach stays mellow and quiet all week long. The beach is great, and our Premier Cottage was awesome. The hot water was a welcome change. The were a few ants in the bathroom, but it's hard to find anywhere in the Philippines without a few, but there were absolutely no bugs in the bedroom or anywhere else. There were only 2 waiters on staff at the restaurant for the entire 5 days, but they were both great, and very helpful. The food was very good for Philippines, although also very expensive for Philippines, but you can expect that at any resort. 50 pesos for a beer, when they are normally 23, but still a very manageable price. The front desk staff couldn't care less, and hardly looked at me when I checked in, which was the same for check-out and every interaction we had, which luckily we kept to a minimum. However, I wouldn't say their work ethic reflects the rest of the resort. The woman who runs the scuba center is very annoying and persistent, and seems to think NO THANK YOU means "Ask me again next time I step outside".
I see other reviews on here who rank this resort negatively based on their inability to find their way from the pier to the resort without some help. It's called a tricycle, and they're everywhere! When in the Philippines, do as the Filipinos do, it's cheap and easy and better than complaining that the resort didn't pick you up!
Overall it was a great stay. It's not for the late-night partiers or the club-scene, but a relaxing quiet place with few beach vendors to harass the guests and great options for water sports. I would recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: Premier Cottages have the best location right on the beach, and are quiet and clean. Pick up your al...

“Average. Nothing to write home about.”

It was OK not the best and not the worst place I stayed.

Rooms:
We had a double with air con at 1500 pesos. Annoying that the corridors are infront of your window which means you can't enjoy the seaview in the peace of your room as someone may walk past and can look right in. We had our curtains shut most of the time for privacy so couldn't enjoy the view. We also had a broken shower head which when we told staff no one bothered to fix it or move it.

Location:
We liked the location as wanted peace and White beach next door was too loud for us. However it meant we had fewer places to choose to dine in and mainly ate at the resort for convenience.

Food:
Was tasty but over priced. We only stayed for 4 nights and the menu was already becoming repetitive! We met two girls who had stayed for 1 week and were very bored of the food by the end of their stay.

Service:
It was OK. The Philippines isn't great for European standards of service but that said staff were rather unattentive and as with most places food took AGES to arrive. Don't expect your mains to come out at the same time either.

Overall:
We needed somewhere to stay on the way down to North Pandan Island. Tamaraw Resort did the job but as mentioned a few times it was just OK - nothing to write home about.

***Recommendations***
In the afternoon little jellyfish pop out which means swimming is very uncomfortable so you have to swim in the morning if you don't want to get stung. Would recommend kayaking to the next beach to eat at the restaurants there. Massages are available from the Ladies on the beach for 350 pesos for 1 hour. Ask around for a local boatman to take you on a snorkelling trip to see the giant clams and a rather colourful reef - expect to pay around 500 pesos each for a few hours snorkelling with no lunch provided.

“Wonderful Family Vacation Spot”

My family just returned from five nights at the Tamaraw Beach Resort and our kids declared it the "Best Vacation Ever". We stayed in a room with a kitchenette and cooked most of our own meals. The kitchenette is basic: one burner, sink and fridge with simple dishes and pots. The room was comfortable and clean, and we found the service to be very good. The best part about the Tamaraw is the location. You can walk out of your room and onto the beach in less than a minute. We spent most of our stay on the beach. We swam, played, got massages, snorkeled and relaxed. The only drawback is that they are doing construction at the moment.
We will definitely be returning to the Tamaraw Beach Resort. It was great value for the off-season rate and just a short ferry trip from Luzon.
*Walk down the beach (opposite from White Beach) or take a trike to Luca for some fantastic wood-oven pizza.

Room Tip: Although the kitchenette rooms are a good value, they do not have an ocean view. Ask for third or f...

“"a peaceful vacation"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

We went to Tamaraw last week for a vacation & to celebrate our daughter's 5th birthday! The package we got is good for 4pax but only 3 of us came. I’ve read many reviews from this site about Tamaraw even before we get there. So I promised myself that I’ll share my reviews as well.

Since we forgot to check the scheds going to Puerto galera, we arrived to batangas port at around 3:30pm & unfortunately had to take the last trip going to Puerto galera at 5pm. There’s a lot of agent around offering accommodation, we met a lady that says her cousin works for Tamaraw. She called Tamaraw to inform them that we’re already in batangas port; she said we no longer need to text Tamaraw because the shuttle will be waiting for us at Muelle Port. It took us more than an hour to get to Puerto Galera Muelle Port. To be sure, we still informed Tamaraw that we’re already in muelle. When we get off the boat, there’s a shuttle going to white beach. We asked for the Tamaraw’s shuttle but a man said “wala pa”, OMG that’s the usual complaint I’ve read about Tamaraw… I didn’t expect to encounter the same problem! But luckily, the shuttle there decided to take us to Tamaraw after taking the others to white beach… yehey!

After 30mins, we reached the Tamaraw! The hotel lobby looks very nice at night because of the lights & the stair… The receptionist welcomed us & had us assisted to our room which was located in the 3rd floor of another building, room 310 to be exact! The room is very spacious & clean, there’s a fridge as well. What I didn’t like about the room is the sink having no filter, the other light beside the bed is not working as well, heheh… (putol ung cable!) And before I forget… the door lock sucks! I even noticed the other guest having trouble unlocking their door.

Food… yes, It’s a bit pricey but delicious… I’ve tried the Cordon Bleu, it was good! Breakfast was included in our package; serving is enough to make you full. Try the” Tamaraw Special” for breakfast… sarap!

The place is very private; you can enjoy the wide beach right in front of the hotel. They have a recreation room where you can play billiards, dart, table tennis etc… just ask them for the key! There’s a little playground for kids also in front of the beach.

We extended for another night in the hotel… though we wanted to stay in the same room, we can’t! It’s booked and if we wanted to take the superior room again, we will have to move to room 301 which I don’t like because it’s too far from the beach view. They suggest the premier cottage w/ the same rate; we asked to see the room first but since it’s occupied still, we had to wait for the next morning to decide.

Cottage is better! Though it’s smaller and less spacious, it’s more convenient because the beach is just few steps away from your door. Unlike our first room, we have to take the stairs pa to reach the 3rd floor to get in to our room.

Over all, I would say that we really enjoyed our stay in Tamaraw Beach Resort. We will be back once the pool is done… so far it’s under construction so they do apologize for the inconvenience. In fairness, it doesn’t bother at all.

If you’re looking for a place to relax and escape the busy and noisy city, I would definitely suggest Tamaraw.

But if when you get bored and wanted some night life… don’t worry! White beach is just near from Tamaraw! You have 2 options to get there… first, take a 10min walk to the very rocky road (hehe… ice cream?) seriously; you’ll be challenged by the huge rocks. The other way is to simply take a tricycle but they will charge you a hundred pesos (so expensive for a short ride!)

Hope this helps!

Room Tip: Superior room is good. try to choose rm 310-312 Cottages are better...

“Lacklustre”

We stayed at Tamaraw Beach resort for only one night, even though we'd originally intended to stay in the area for a few days. Upon arriving at the hotel, the staff were less than enthusiastic, and this attitude was reflected in our room. Whilst it was fairly clean, it was run down, condensation dripped down the walls at night, and the fridge smelt terrible. We didn't feel the price was appropriate for the quality of the room.

On the plus side, the man behind the front desk in the evening (the Manager?) was very helpful with regard to travel plans. Also, Tamaraw provide a free shuttle service to Puerto Galera, and the man who took us was friendly.
