My friends and I stayed at this hotel on a girl's vacation. We had paid for a private transfer to the hotel. To get there, you need to get a shuttle from the airport in Manila then take a water taxi. The men at the ferry port were mad we did not want them to carry our bags (they try to take them from you so you have to tip them) so they had us miss our private water taxi. We then had to wait for a public one. It was incredibly overloaded with people. Once we got to the hotel, the staff showed us to our rooms.
We had been told we were getting a suite. We were in the Heritage room. What it was was a bed downstairs and two beds in a loft. The ladder to the loft was straight up and vertical. You need to be fairly fit to get up and down this ladder. We could not run the air conditioner and the TV at the same time or the generator would go. Then, our first night after having traveled from city to city in South Korea then flying to Manila and traveling all the way to the hotel, there was a party above us. This party went on until well after 7am the next morning. We had complained to the desk and they had promised us it would stop at 10:30pm. Eventually we argued to get comped dinner for three and half the night reimbursed.
The staff at the hotel for the most part were surly and unfriendly. The "store" the hotel has is a cupboard of overpriced items. Water is much cheaper off the island but the hotel does not want you bringing anything back to the resort. Also, there is NO shopping nearby. The hotel will tell you that there is, but a few stalls of people trying to sell you things at ridiculously inflated prices is not shopping. The spa is nothing to bother trying.
The beach is nice but you can't swim. Half of it is a dead coral reef and the other is shallow and full of rocks and seaweed. The pools are nice though.
The hilltop villas are tiny rooms with curtains for windows and no air conditioning. They offered for us to switch rooms and when we found out the cable car was broken, we definitely decided to take what we got.
The hotel has numerous restaurants, however, unless people sign up to eat at them, only the main restaurant is open every meal. The Italian restaurant is AMAZING if you happen to not listen to me and go to this hotel. It, and the fact that happy hour waiters deliver poolside were the only redeeming things.
I recommend spending a bit more money and staying somewhere friendlier. It makes a huge difference.
Room Tip: If you want air conditioning, you have to get a Heritage room.
