“Paradise Found”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

It being my first journey to the Philippines and Asia on the whole, I had no idea what to expect and I'd prepared to rough it during my week in Puerto Galera. What I found in Capt'n Gregg's was anything but rough; comfortable, modern amenities in a pleasantly local atmosphere made me feel enough like I was at a resort to satisfy my desire to relax, but the authentic feel of the place scratched the itch I'd had to change my scenery from the New York winter I was traveling from. And of course the convenience of its location was one of the best parts about the place: it's right on the beach, a 2 minute walk to downtown, and the resort is complete with its own well-equipped and very well-staffed dive shop on the ground floor, just beneath the restaurant which is also excellent and definitely reasonable. Make sure to try a Gin Juice (a Capt'n Gregg's original creation) and you might never want to leave Puerto Galera at all! Between the many exquisite dive sites just a few minutes cruise from the resort in one of Capt'n Gregg's own boats, the restaurant's exceptional menu and bar (complete with the "Tea Table" reserved for solo travelers), and the constant party going on just steps away in downtown Sabang, Capt'n Gregg's is where you want to be when visiting Puerto Galera. First rate all around!!

Room Tip: If you appreciate a good view, I'd highly recommend rooms 11 and/or 12; they are on the top floo...

“Carefree Vacation Combined With World Class Diving”

From the moment I made my reservation, I could tell that I was dealing with a class act. The conscientious and considerate staff made all of the arrangements to have me and my group picked up at my hotel in Manilla and transported to Batangas where they had arranged for a private boat to take us directly to their resort. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to our rooms which were clean and nicely laid out with balconies, good air conditioning, mini-bar, cable TV,Wi-fi network, etc. The restaurant associated with this hotel had a nightly barbecue as well as an elaborate menu with enough variety to satisfy even the most discriminating palate. The quality of the food did not disappoint and the service was friendly and prompt. The dive shop was directly below the restaurant and had an area where everyone was assigned a space to store our dive gear. We were treated like royalty by the dive staff who assembled and transported our diving equipment to the boat before every dive. All we had to do was show up in our wetsuits with our mask and fins. At the end of each dive the staff would also dis-assemble and wash all of our gear and hang it back up in our storage areas. We never get treated this way in the Caribbean or Mexico. The best part of this entire experience was the prices were incredibly reasonable. For example a one tank dive cost about $33- $40 depending on whether or not you had your own equipment. The room ran around $42 a night. The food and drinks were just as reasonable with most meals costing from $10-20. It is worth mentioning that the other guests were from all over the world. Everyone was friendly and there was a festive atmosphere as a result. We were sad when it came time to leave, but we will definitely return again and again.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor with the balconies. These rooms are brighter and have a fabulous view of the wa...

“GREAT VACATION PLACE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

WOW, what a great vacation we had! We were looking for a place to take a suba diving vacation, and a friend recommended Capt'n Gregg's in Puerto Galera, Philippines. We took him up on his recommendation and when we arrived were pleasantly surprised at how friendly, clean and well centered Capt'n Gregg's was. The diving was great, the staff was very knowledgeable, and the equipment was state of the art. The room was furnished with cable tv, hot water, aircon, mini bar and safe. The beds were clean and very comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food and service were excellent! Our fiend was right on with this and now we recommend Capt'n Gregg's to all of our friends.

“Diving Devine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Even with new, updated rooms, Capt'n Gregg's, the oldest diving resort in Sabang, still has its old resort charm. A stable staff, many who have been there for over 15 years, is cheerful, and makes your stay safe, and fun. You'll always have a freshly-scrubbed bathroom, and clean towels, and you won't worry about items going missing.
While shore diving in front of the resort is wonderful, the reefs are thrilling, with or without currents. Boat rides of usually less than 7 minutes will put you over 10-15 of the best diving spots in the world. The diving staff seldom selects a site, leaving that up to the divers to discuss. Unless there is presumed a "thumper" current, you go where you want to go. New boats that go faster, and ride smoother, are wonderful.
The restaurant is one of the best on the beach, attested to by the patronage of so many who visit from other resorts. Great barbie, large menu selections, and daily specials, coupled with modest prices, make evening dining a great way to end a day of diving, or sight-seeing. Portions are large, so older or diet-aware diners can order half-portions. I use this as a way to try more than one menu item per meal. Don't tell my wife!!
If you want to update your diving skills, the staff is one of the most technically-knowledgeable on the beach. Tech-diving is offered, with the latest in mixed-gas computers.
Can't wait to get back.

Room Tip: No elevator to upper rooms, so if you are really tired at the end of the day, you want an older, mor...
