I stayed at the Ritz Carlton Pacific Place one and half year ago. At that time, the hotel was just opened and as expected, lots of “teething problems”. During this re-visit, standards have been much improved. The Ritz Carlton Pacific Place is the second Ritz Carlton in Jakarta and unlike it’s larger sister, it’s a boutique hotel with only 62 rooms.
I booked a One Bedroom corner Suite which is a spacious 127m2 suite with living room, bedroom and a large full marble bathroom. The suite is decorated in muted colors and follows a minimalist contemporary style which is quite relaxing and comfortable. The king size bed is comfortable although the mattress is a bit hard for my taste. The suite is also equipped with two large Samsung 46” LCD TV and DVD players, a Bang & Olufsen CD player. Wireless internet is complementary. The suite has a commanding 270 Deg view of Jakarta city skyline, thanks to the large floor to ceiling windows. I also like the furniture in the room. It’s very high quality and functional without being pretensious.
The bathroom is outstanding. Decorated in rich flamoyant marble, it’s a full ensuite with two sinks, a very spacious shower cubicle and a free standing deep soaking tub, with a view of Sudirman. Water pressure is tremendous in the shower cubicle. The bathroom also comes with three different sets of mood lighting. Premium Bvlgari toiletries and thick fluffy bathrobes are provided. This is one of the best bathroom I have seen in a hotel. Comparing with the “Spa Suite” that I booked last time, this suite is generately much better looking except lacking a jacuzzi in the bathroom.
Service is attentive, warm and friendly during my stay as expected of a Ritz Carlton. A club lounge serving 5 food presentations are available to all hotel guests. I would say the food quality and variety has improved compared to my last visit. Also had dinner at the hotel’s only restaurant ( Pacific Restaurant ). The buffet only cost a very reasonable Rp188K++ ( including non-alcoholic drinks ). While the variety was a bit lacking, I was pleasantly surprised that the food quality served was very high. I particular liked the presentation, whereby special orders were served in fine dinning style. Hence it’s a real pity that I noticed there were only two tables filled in this whole restaurant, myself and another guest. There were many more waiters and chef serving food then dinners and looks like the buffet spread is going to waste. I feel sad for them. I think they are doing a good job, but the hotel wasn’t doing more to promote the restaurant to the general public. And being a boutique hotel and adjoining the Pacific Place Mall with lots of eateries, it’s having a tough time to compete. This same restaurant also served what I considered to be the best Sunday Brunch in Jakarta, especially for food quality.
There are some minor shortfalls which thus prevent the hotel from achieving greatness, mostly a lack of attention to detail
1) A welcome amenity of chocolates and fruit platter was presented when I checked-in. However, the welcome letter itself is missing. Usually, especially for boutique hotels, there should be a welcome letter signed either by the Rooms Director or the GM and usually outlining the facilities and benefits for the guest. For a luxury boutique hotel, this seems like a careless oversight. The irony was that I received such a hotel last time.
2) The gym has a shortage of threadmills. As the gym was also opened to residents in the Ritz Carlton service apartment, the threadmills were always occupied.
3) The windows weren’t properly cleaned, thus spoiling the nice city view.
4) The DVD player appears to be malfunctioning. The picture quality was quite bad. So are some of the TV channels. This should have been checked and rectify before the guest check-in.
Overall, I enjoy my stay at this hotel this time. Service has improved since my last stay, which is to be expected since the hotel has since opened for much longer time. It’s a relaxing way to spend the weekend. I gave the hotel a 3* rating during my previous stay and called it a mixed bag. Now, I would say it deserved a high 4*. It’s not that far from the path to greatness.
