During kids holiday, we want to go somewhere out of town, but for some reasons I contacted the travel agent too late. Without pre-plan, travelling is costly. All flights and hotels to/in Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Bali an all Asia destinations are fully-booked, they said.
So what's the plan B?
I read in the newspaper there's new Ritz Carlton hotel in CBD area.
I thought that would be nice, considering the facts that:
1. I can bring my kids to Kidzania, located in the next mall
2. Easy to find meals around the area
3. the Pacific Place mall and the hotel itself is new, so it feels like we're travelling somewhere. There's a sense of excitement and adventure
4. Cheaper than going out of town/abroad. as we don't have to expense for transportations(car rentals/airtickets), even the fiscal taxes!
I called them directly and they advised me taking the apartment with 2 bedrooms for us (2 adults and 3 kids, 9, 8 and 4 year old). We got the company rate and the rate is similar with the 1 bedroom hotel rate, despite we dont get extra complimentary meals and bvlgari amenities.
That's OK.
In fact, with the serviced-apartment type, we get a kitchen and we can keep the kids busy with cooking activities (the Kemchicks supermarket is next door, basement floor of Pacific mall).
We stayed for three nights in 32nd floor.
Everything is superb. .....
As the hotel/apartment is still new, everything is shiny new, squeaky and clean.
The fridge, the stove, cutleries, utensils, cutting board, washing machine, dishwasher. The kitchen is nice. there's also a water dispenser and a fire extinguisher.
3 flat TV sets in the bedrooms and the living room.
Spacious closet, storage and bathroom with crisp, extra large, abundant supply of towels.
Comfy beds, pillows, sofas.
Ipod player and dvd player.
1 day free internet access.
The nicest thing is the view. the city view is magnificent! the December weather is cool and windy up there. at that time, we forgot that we're in Jakarta which is always polluted and noisy.
Kids enjoying their time.
they're cooking breakfast, swimming every morning and dancing around (thanks to the ipod player!)
One thing I remember, the last night before checking-out, one PR staff called me to ask about my opinions about the apartment facilities. I complained about no kids activities.
Within minutes, she knocked our door and delivered a nice toy for my youngest daughter! What a pleasant surprise!
We had lunch and dinner on the mall next door.
We didnt go to Kidzania as it's in peak season.
Some things that can be improved:
1. the lobby is not impressive. dont expect the lavish grand lobby like the other diamond even five star hotels
2. busines-theme hotel makes them not considered their tiny guests. dont expect kids activities, fish pond, or kids pool/jogging tracks.
3. no trashbin in the kitchen and dining room/living room
4. no frying pan/boiling pots. we have to ask to the butler service to get one. no cutting knife/microwave/napkins
5. only two slippers in the master bedroom. we have to ask to the butler service to get extra slippers for the 2nd bedroom
6. no soap racks in the bathrooms
7. no bathmat in the 2nd bathroom. we have to ask to the butler service to get one
8. no time indicators/clocks in the living room/2nd bedroom
9. no qiblat indicator
10. too standard amenities
11. no mirror in the 2nd bedroom
12. potpourri/flowers would be nice
13. no magazines/jakarta maps/hotel activity brochures
14. plain decoration. no indonesian crafts
15. no ottoman in the living room.
16. chairs in the balcony would be nice
17. 'butler service' button phone was not working in the living room phone set
18. I asked for 'the Jakarta Post' daily newspaper, but they delivered 'Kompas', instead.
19. lack of room information for the room boy. When the roomboy ushered me to the room, I asked whether the room has 1 or 2 bathrooms. he said one. in fact, the room has two.
Overall, we're satisfied with our holidays here in the Residences of Ritz Carlton, Pacific Place.
First time holiday in town, surprisingly can be as fun as we had in Bali.
Amazingly we didn't miss the coconut trees, sands and snorkeling!
