This hotel has a great vibe and high service standards we have come to expect from Disney Resorts. It is the more affordable of the two hotels at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, which attracts a different kind of clientele - those wanting a five star family holiday at a budget price. Lots of visitors from Mainland China, and India. Many people seemed to have booked the hotel in extended family or tour groups.
There is some complaining on here about the price, but seriously, how many hotels let you have 4 people to one bedroom? Of course the room is going to feel small if you have four people in it, even if they are kids. Admittedly the rooms are not huge, but no where does the hotel tout itself as having luxurious rooms. It is basically there to give families a fun and affordable option to experience Disney Resorts. If you want all the bells and whistles, you must pay for them at the Disneyland Resort Hotel. But don't pay substantially less at Hollywood and complain about it.
All the food I had at Chef Mickey (the buffet restaurant) was delicious and great quality. Staff were wonderful and accommodating as Disney staff always are. I loved the decor and ambience of this hotel - really fun, great swing music in the hallways, great use of lighting and art deco furnishings. It is more casual and relaxed than the Disneyland Hotel.
I stayed during winter, but it would be fabulous in summer I imagine, with the awesome piano shaped pool, and huge garden & restaurant area by the pool.
My only complaint was that the amount of large families made for noisy hallways, which disrupted my sleep a little, but on the whole, I was satisfied. I paid about $200 a night for one person and thought it was good value; between a family of four for one room (which many customers do), it is only $50 per person per night. Excellent value, if a bit squishy. If you think you might be too snug, the solution is simple: open your wallet and spring for another room, like you would probably have to do at another hotel anyhow. I just think this hotel has been bagged unfairly due to unrealistic expectations of pax.
Room Tip: Choose a park view room - you can see some of the new Toy Story Land rides operate =D
