“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

The Island Shangri La is conveniently located above Pacific Place Shopping Mall and very close to the metro station.
I arrived at 8:30 am and was informed that my room was ready and I could check in early, I arrived to find a hot pot of Chinese tea and a fresh fruit waiting in the room.
The room was comfortable, the view was nice. The staff were all very pleasant. The only negative I can say is that perhaps the hotel is in need of some basic remodeling.
I had room service breakfast twice during my stay and it was good.

“Always the best service”

The service at this hotel is the gold standard, against which all others are to be measured. It is rarely beaten.

The rooms are comfortable and well furnished. I like the bedside power point. I like the desk with multiple power points, configured for English, American or Australian devices.

I like the free Internet, wired and wireless, for as many devices as you wish. I like the free Evian water, which in some other hotels is USD15 per bottle.

I like the large and well-equipped gym, including jacuzzi. I like the bathrobes. The free headphones, towels, water bottles, fruit offered as you walk into the gym.

I've been here 4 days now, and I haven't come up with one thing to complain about. And it was the same on my previous trips. I came with my young daughter once, and the house maid left cookies and milk for my daughter, everyone afternoon, without asking.

It's the service again - always available, pre-empting you. It is as if they can read your mind.

It's expensive, but they do it very well.

“Good But not Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

Great Location at Pacific Place in HK (Which is 4 Hotels/serviced apartments above a Mall and underground station) The Hotel had its rooms renovated a few years back and they are in pretty good condition, much nicer decor than their original colour scheme. Bathrooms are huge, beds are comfortable and views are brilliant on both sides; ok if $$ is not an issue of course take the Harbour View but the Peak View is also nice. Club Lounge is brilliant, the Lounge it self is a bit over the top in terms of trying hard to be glam, but they have this excellent outdoor area for those smokers and those wanting non air-conditioned environment. The let down was the rubbish found in the room, quite a few bits, under beds, under desk, lack of turn down (they forgot) and also the bathroom had a really bad smell obviously coming up from the drainage (staff said usual of this aged property - err thanks) Pool is also quite small with tiny area around the side with sun lounges. Breakfast we had in their fine dining restaurant (you can have it in a few places if you are Club Guest) and that Restaurant is certainly not going to be to everyone's aesthetic taste; way to "new rich and old French" for my cup of tea! Staff were on the whole good, efforts made to make amends for rubbish in room with some nice French wine were appreciated. This hotel is not cheap and will only appeal to a certain market; personally I think Upper House / Mandarin Oriental are better choices.

“This is the gem of Hong Kong, at the right price...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

My wife and I stayed in Hong Kong for four nights for pleasure in January. The weather was pretty dreary the whole time, but our experience staying at the Island Shangri La was not. We found the hotel to be first rate, and in a great neighborhood close to everything.

Our room was on the 51st floor, and was one of their standard rooms that is available between the 38th and 51st floor. We had a peak side room, and I would not pick the other side for any reason. The view of the peak is unique and awe-inspiring. The harbor side is likely to have lots of buildings and some water to look at. The peak side has Victoria Peak and buildings with Hong Kong Park down below. I imagine it's the quieter side too. It's certainly the pretty side.

Our room had an adjoining door, which isn't optimal. Sadly, the neighboor next door smoked one night and the smell came through to our room, despite the floor being non-smoking. My wife reported it and the guest was moved. We also had two twin beds next to each other. If you prefer, ask for a King. The room is beautifully appointed if a bit dated in its look, with a nice chandelier hanging in the center. The TV and internet worked great, and I appreciated that the internet was included at no extra charge. Fresh fruit is left in the room in a small basket each day, and this was a nice touch.

The Shangri La is attached to a luxury shopping mall area, and you don't really need to go outside to get to the Metro. This is a plus in case it's raining outside. The location at Admiralty Place is really walking distance to everything you'll want to see on Hong Kong Island, but the great subway system is cheap, efficient, and easily accessible.

In sum, this is THE gem of Hong Kong in terms of elegance, setting, location, and service. The price for pleasure travelers may be prohibitive, however. We found a GREAT rate at nearly half off the rate found elsewhere on the internet. Paid USD $330 per night for a room that normally can't be had for under $500. It's worth a little online shopping if you want to stay here. We did and saved some major money while moving to this hotel from the boutique hotel we originally had booked at a similar price.

If we ever return to Hong Kong, the Shangri La on Hong Kong Island will be our first choice.

Room Tip: Get the peak view side. See our pictures, you won't be disappointed.

“Live from Island Shangri-La Hotel......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012

We arrive just yesterday to this magnificent hotel....As we came out of the hotel's Rolls Royce phantom that picked us up from the airport Natalie informed us that our room was ready and took us to the 40th floor.
Stunning view of the Kowloon side, greeting tea pot and fruits was only the beginning or this experience.
Knowlegeable concierges, efficient personel everywhere, from the cafe Too that serves the breakfast until the last cleaning lady, this hotel is earning high marks for giving excellent service to the customers and attention to every detail.
In the atrium hangs the 16 stores-high Chinese silk painting.....you can admire it in the last floor of the hotel..as you going to the restaurant Petrus(** Michelin star award winning)or to the club(available for rooms from the 50-56 floor).
There is also a library if you want to relax,a spa for beauty treatments and a pool (which we were informed that it will be close from 20-26/03 due to maintenance.Though we have the option(from our hotel) to go to Conrad hotel(which is next to Shangri-La)

In the restaurant reviews i will add my opinion for the restaurants of the hotel...until then
Congratulations to all the staff!!!!
