4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Very good hostel with nice rooms. Very good stuff and interesting trips organized by this hostel Food excellent and is not far from Tienanmen square. We were on Secret Wall. Near of this hostel there is Chinese massage very cheap. In this hostel stuff can tell You where You can buy something interesting , eat and spend Your time in Beijing.

“Great tour of the Wall, otherwise you get what you pay for (Leo Hostel 2)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

By no means fancy, but gets the job done. The service was very friendly, cozy bar upstairs and nice living room area. The highlight was the tour they organized of the great wall, ahead of the tourist spots. It was quiet and super.

There's free internet on a terminal and some DVD's to choose from

“what do you expect... it's China”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

We loved Leo Hostel. Sure, the rooms smell a bit musty and the shower floods. What do you expect... it's China. It's certainly nothing unusual. So few hutongs are left that it's nice to be on a traditional street. The staff is quite good. Their tours are excellent, and restaurant is reasonable. Although the street vendor, who sells what called Chinese Burritos down the street, is even better. 10 Kwai for a very filling meal. From this area you can walk to the Forbidden City, or take a bus to the Temple of Heaven. The Pearl Market is near the ToH but skip that and go to Panjiayuan. I've had several stays at the Leo Hostel. Once with friends, once with my elderly parents. Each demographic enjoyed their stay.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms all the way in the back. The cafe is in the center of the space and it can be rather l...

“Beijng Leo Hostel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

Booked Leo after review on TA... we stayed for 4 nights twin bed, bed comfortable... but shower flooded after each use.. the place just need a major make over.. for the same money per room, go across the road to 365.. better rooms... newer. Staff are very friendly at Leo, food reasonable... but do visit some of the local restaurant on the same street... good food, reasonable price.

Room Tip: Try 365 Inn across the road

“Good location, but damp, dirty and unhelpful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We stayed here with friends for a few days. When we first arrived we were put in a 4 person dorm with bathroom, which was damp, smelt mouldy, had dirty tissues and piles of dust and dirt behind the beds, and the wrapper for a rat trap in one corner. The bathroom smelt so bad we had to move rooms. After that the rooms were basic and still pretty dirty - they don't clean in hard to reach places, and the mattresses are ridiculously thin. Bathrooms continued to smell bad. The bar was nice, great DVD collection and friendly staff, but the staff responsible for actually running the hostel were basically useless. They had us running round in circles for 2 days trying to book an international train ticket, and in the end their wild goose chase left us with no time and we had to buy flights instead. On our final night they had double-booked my boyfriends bed. We realised around 11pm and informed the guy on duty, but he told us to "wait til morning" to sort it out, obviously leaving him bedless for the night. We told the people at the desk the next morning and asked for the money back for his bed, which he'd been unable to sleep in, and they not only refused but they implied that we were lying as there was supposedly no man on duty that night, only women.

We came away feeling totally short-changed by this hostel - bad service, bad cleanliness, only made up for by its lively setting.

Room Tip: There are similarly priced dorms which are a million times cleaner, nicer, and friendlier. Try Happy...
