“Great staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Location is good, but certainly not the greatest. Hotel's been there for 20 years, but the maintenance did a good job keep it in good shape. Still, it's not as fancy as the newer hotels in Beijing. Gym is small, but they did a good job with the amount of space they have. The rooms in the front side give you a better view, but if you enjoy quietness, ask for a room in the back. The best part of this hotel is the staff. Friendly and eager to help. One time I asked for a wake up call the night before, but changed my mind in the morning. So when the phone started ringing, I took the receiver off the hook and put it aside. When it somehow continued to ring, I put a pillow over my head and continued try to sleep, then I heard some staff running down the hallway banging on my door to wake me up. They took their job seriously!

In front of ambassies and diplomatic compound, at walkig distance from an international supermarket, Starbucks, a good Italian restaurant, a beauty and massage centre.
Good service, not hight level of English at the concierge. Fitness centre with Technogym machines needs to be renewed.
Good breakfast.
Do not stay at 5th floor, the smell of food is too strong!

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Good: location is great, not too far from the airport (about 20mins) and to the city centre, as it's located at the third ring of Beijing. So you won't waste too much time stuck in the traffic jam especially at Chang An road.
Beside the hotel there are some restaurants and China Air ticketing office. So it's great if you need to travel on domestic route cuz they accept overseas credit card.
It's also not too far to walk to the shopping mall.
The area is surrounded by nice apartments and embassies.
Executive lounge is huge with free usage of computer at the upper level.
Bad: even though the hotel is quite new (opened prior to 2008 Beijing Olympic games) but the up keeping of the property seems lacking. On my recent trip I noticed that the shower room floor flooded after shower, handle broken.
Also seems like many cab drivers puzzled when you told them to drive you to Hilton at dongsan huan Bei road. You have to tell them that it's opp westin and near sanyuan bridge.
Drinking lounge on the ground level is too small with poor ventilation.

Other than this, I will still stick to this hotel as it's just too convenient for me especially on the travel time as Beijing is well known for its traffic congestion.

“Wouldn't go back.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

I have to start by saying that this is the only hotel at which I stayed in Beijing. So maybe this is pretty good for a bejing hotel?
But for a Hilton I was disappointed. The hallway smelled funky (almost like sewage).
In my room, the toilet wouldn't flush properly so I had to call someone to come fix it. They came promptly and fixed it but I still had to flush a couple times each time.
Then I found some ash (cigarette ash?) in the tub. This was the night I arrived. I was too tired to complain and luckily the maid cleaned it up the next day.

The breakfast buffet was decent, other than the cheese that was all dried out. None of the staff spoke any english so it was really difficult trying to tell them that I wanted some soup made with only vegetables and without any noodles.

The location was farther away from the touristy things (forbidden city etc.) than what I wanted. Especially during rush hour, cab drivers would refuse to take me to the hotel unless I would negotiate for a fixed rate. I didn't feel comfortable doing that. I eventually found a cab that was willing to take me using the meter. It came out to be pretty expensive and took a long time to get back. If you only have a limited time, stay closer to where you want to go.

Oh, but the foot massage place next door was pretty amazing and oh so cheap. There's a way to get a discount if you purchase/book online. Someone local did that for me. Anyway, that was probably the best foot massage I've ever gotten. But again, no one speaks a word of English there.

Just an FYI: from the airport, I had an extremely difficult time trying to get the cab drivers to understand where I wanted to go. I didn't have hotel card on me. I didn't know that to say Hilton in Chinese, it sounds nothing like Hilton but rather something like Shi-a-Duan. I even had someone handwrite a note in chinese as to where I was going but no one could understand the writing! Not sure why that was. So my advice is arrange the ride in advance/print out the hotel website in chinese/do whatever it takes in advance to prepare yourself.
