“Great Location - Not 3 Star - Very Tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

The Harmony is a below standard 3 star hotel with a tired facade that needs updating and our twin share room 711 was average, as was the breakfast. The ceiling was cracked and had been repatched badly. Beds were like rocks but please note that most beds are hard in China and 3 star accommodation is less than you would expect in other places in the world. Having said that, I must praise the staff for their helpfulness with a couple of small problems we had with a broken pipe in the bathroom and a broken toilet flush handle. The housekeeping staff did not speak much english but that did not stop them from giving very fast and efficient service to attend to our problems, which were actioned within 15 minutes and fixed within 30. Well done!

Our room was spacious, with a safe and wi-fi throughout the hotel. We had no wi-fi device so used the internet which could be purchased from the business centre for 1 yuan per minute.

The Harmony is very centrally located near the Beijing railway station and a short walk from the New World shopping centre if you need to pick up a few groceries or check out the retail shops. Don't forget to look down as you can enjoy the ice skating whilst shopping!. Local shops across the road are handy for water (not provided in the room) and other supplies, restaurants are easy to walk to and ATM machines are handy. We had an interesting view of a hutong from our window and enjoyed watching the activity in the street from early till late.

An ok hotel but I believe China Odyssey Tours can do better next time!

“Hostel Like”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Small rooms with borderline cleanliness. Hotel staff not incredibly helpful at check in. Close to Train Station so quite a transient aream and a little dodgy. Close to Subway station but so are about a million other hotels in Beijing. No great Restaurants nearby, Wifi slow if working at all. This was an UPGRADE on out Exodus tour, and would definetly upgrade to premium next time, if this was moderate. Did not like this hotel and would not stay again. Loud hallways and friends room was actually on marble stairwell landing.. very loud. At 1 am, hotel staff tried to get in her room which was chain locked luckily.... Oh sorry... and they left... she was terrified.

Never really persued, but unsure if there is a swimming pool, no signage, no map in room.

“I won't go back again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

We chose this hotel as it's near to Beijing railway and we needed to catch a 7.45am train to Mongolia. It was quiet and well situated near eating places and the MRT station. Another plus point was the wifi. However, I will not go back there again. The hotel looked old, more like a 3 star hotel. The room looked like it's last renovated in 1980s. The room smelled of stale cigarette smoke. The shower area was small and dim. I didn't feel comfortable staying there.

Room Tip: I'm not sure about other rooms but I didn't like my room. The shower area is really tight an...

“Some Flaws Many Pluses”

Soap could lather better + there is only single English speaking TV station: CCTV News.

The good points are endless!

Location being easy quick walking distance to Beijing Line 2 subway Station, adjacent to Beijing Railway Station for inter city travel, Tiananmen Square, New World Square Shopping Centre, Chongwenmen Christian Protestant Church, Oriental Arcade + WangFuJing Walking Street.

I have stayed for a # days twice annually since 2002 & Harmony Hotel is always absolutely clean, neat & tide.

Another big positive are the trmendous personnel. From the front office, security, domestic, dining room, maintenance staff. They are invariably efficient, friendly, reliable & professional to everyone. Front office staff speak okay English with front office manage has perfect English.

Room charge is always competitive. I always happily pay the listed room charge.

Room Tip: Book ahead as not uncommon to be fully occupied.

“Harmony Hotel, Beijing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

On our first visit to Beijing was to The Harmony hotel. This hotel is definitley well situated. It is close the Wangfuying area and very close to subway line 1. Which is the subway line which takes you to most of the attractions such as Tianamen Square, Forbiden City. It is about two stops to the Silk Market situated in Yonganli subway stop.

My first impression of the hotel was ok. It is a three star hotel and on our first visit to it we were three and they had rooms to accommodate us. I must say that on that first visit the bed were fine. The reason I say this because on a subsequent visit to this hotel we were given the toughest beds I have ever slept in. Not that I am picky when I travel. As my way of thinking for the most part, I am interested in the culture, sightseeing, shopping etc. which means that I am not very much at the hotel. Having said that, on our subsequent visit to this hotel we felt that we got a bad deal with the accommodations.

For the most part the ladies at the counter have basic English but I must say that they need a bit of customer service training. Not because they are rude or anything of the like, but if you ask them directions for something they are not really able to assist you. We were lucky that I do extensive research before we travel, and so I even find written directions in Chinese in order for us to show whomever we meet if we need to.

Other than that we felt that the hotel is very well situated. Around the corner you find small restaurants with fairly low prices. Close is also the Bejing Train station. I must add that it is constantly busy even at night.

Around the Harmony is very safe, we did a few walks at night and it was very pleasant. Oh, I may add both times we went to this hotel it was winter, so it was extremely cold. It is ok as long as you cover up really well. The weather in winter is a dry cold and you can feel it in your bones. But it is pleasant in that everyday we were there the sun was out, simply it was cold.

For us having travelled several times to Beijing we like the winter time as it is almost low season and all attractions are not as crowded as during summer. We did that to!....

Since there is no selection of when we travelled there we were there winter 2008, winter 2009, spring 2010 and summer 2011.
