“Great hotel”

This is a great hotel, with beautiful gardens, 2 swimming pools and nice parking. The hotel is very secure and the rooms are comfortably furnished. Being in Westlands, the hotel is a convenient location to access the C.B.D.

There are two restaurants; I particularly enjoyed grilled steak at the Spur Restaurant, which I alternated with meals at Zafferano Restaurant which is just about a minute walk from the hotel.

Overall, the service, meals, and facilities are great!

“Calming, tranquil and very inviting…………”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I spent a lot of time researching and selecting our hotel and was very pleased to find it ticked all the boxes and more!

We stayed over two periods in December totalling 12 nights. For the first part of our stay we acquired a room by the smaller swimming pool. Very quiet location and ideal for us as we just had to nip out of room to swim and laze around the pool. Second part of our stay we were upgraded to an executive room closer to main restaurant and larger pool. This location is less tranquil especially early morning with lots of guest and staff moving around but the room was of a higher standard.

If staying for several days opt for a room closer to smaller pool. For both locations the room facilities were excellent and our request for a fridge was dealt with promptly.

The staff were very accommodating, friendly and always smiling. Security was never an issue at the hotel as it is well protected. The gardens are lush and expansive. We had the pleasure of watching and listening to some exotic birds and much to our delight saw the odd monkey hanging from a tree.

Breakfast was very inviting and plenty of choice. Great pancakes! Buffet lunches and dinners were good value and excellent service and atmosphere.

Gym facilities quite compact however the ability to use the facilities at any time was great.

Location wise this hotel was only 10 to 15 minutes’ walk, in the day time, from various malls and restaurants. The hotel recommended drivers as well as other public drivers are courteous, great tour guides and keen for repeat business. Worth taking a drivers business card to arrange further trips.

Would have liked to have received free WiFi . Other than that no complaints. Would go back again!

Room Tip: Less noisy if you stay in a room closer to the smaller pool however noisy only early in the morning...

“Service-minded staff, very professional”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Being a frequent member of Southern Sun Hotels group, this hotel recognises me very well from my booking and at check in, they give very welcoming word and you feel you came back. There has been a change in the ownership and I feel the quality of their service is improving. Now you have WIFI for free (previously not). I like the room, traditional colonial style but spacy enough, however being a nice place, they often have events during night time on garden, which may disturb you if you need to work at room or need sleep earlier. Breakfast is superb and I appreciate newspaper service every morning.

“Nice colonial style building, friendly staff and secure”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed here for 2 nights in December 2011 when the hotel was nearly full. The location in Westlands is decent enough and less than 30 minutes from the airport. Not sure that there is much to walk to in the immediate area so it feels a bit like you are in an oasis except when leaving in a vehicle. It is a 5/10 minute taxi ride to the city centre.

The staff are great - friendly, helpful and not too pushy. We booked 2 rooms and needed one of them to be changed to a twin, which they arranged immediately on check in despite the hotel being full. The rooms themselves are quite spacious, and the bathrooms clean. Few mod cons and an old style TV.

Tried the gym, which is well equipped, but was a bit concerned about mosquitos as all the windows are left open at night, although didn't actually see many. Had the hotel buffet breakfast which was lovely, but didn't have an evening meal there - we used the adjacent 'Spur' steakhouse which was pretty good.

For us it was more than just a motel, and had some character, which was a nice way to start our safari trip.

“Some good - some bad!”

This hotel is quite a long way from the airport, which is made worse by the horrendous Nairobi traffic. It is an old two storey colonial building behind a high wall. Security is high and check in was very quick and efficient. Ample friendly porters for baggage handling and explaining your room facilities. We had two visits for one night each - before and after our Kenyan safaris. Pretty, well maintained grounds, two restaurants/bars and a very large pool. The pool restaurant has a la carte and buffet dinner. A la carte service was very slow and the food mediocre - should have had the buffet which looked very popular. We expected better for the price. Lunch time service was also very slow. Their breakfasts, however, made up for it,lots of food, plenty of choice. We had two different rooms, average size, clean and adequately furnished.Good short stay hotel, with friendly staff/good service except in the restaurant.
