“Basic but comfortable. Clean. Great staff.”

Admittedly, when I learned that I'd been booked into this hotel and I had read some of the other reviews here, I gulped and thought, "Oh no". However, I'm not sure whether the hotel has spent time improving its services since others' visit but I really couldn't find anything to complain about. Well, I say that based on the price paid (9900 KS full board for three nights).

The staff were very helpful and friendly. They couldn't do enough (ringing for taxis, carrying luggage, helping connect to the WIFI, etc) and they were genuinely interested in my well being whilst there. Security seemed good which is a must in Nairobi for western travellers. I couldn't have asked for more.

Putting this into perspective, I think if you're looking for a place to sleep then this hotel will do. If you're booking something special, then you'll be disappointed with this hotel. It is not offering a luxurious extension to a safari holiday: its practical and that's it. Shop around if you're more accustomed to a plusher lifestyle.

“Shocking”

We booked a dopple roum via internet. the internet pictures are nice and so we booked for 10 days. We had to stay there beause we did our wedding there. we arrived sunday morning. Important for the reception: to pay the first night before checking the room. So we paid for one night. the room was so shocking (bed dirthy, bathroom very dirthy, wardrobe very funny - no doors and hangers). we asked 4 another room. non smooker. find cigarets and the rest was like the other room. we reported to the staff. no help understanding. for this price its better to sleep in the bush and safe the money ( 75$ / night ). We take a taxi and turn around. checking 5 hotels. find a very good one near Lenana Mount Hotel. We where happy in the moment we are sitted in the taxi and showering in the other hotel. It was horrible. Never ever we book this hotel Lenana Mount Hotel. Please dont go there.

“Used condom accombined by stained bed!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2009

We had just come back from a 10-day long safari trip and had one more night to stay in Nairobi. Since the recommendable 'Wilderbeast Camp' was fully booked our driver recommended us this hole of a hotel which was nearby.

Upon entry everything seemed fine: Secure and interesting wall panels in the lobby.

Nobody offered us help with our luggage but that was OK. They have asked for a full payment up front but I refused (for different reasons). (Note: 1 night was approx £60 when we were there which is horrendous if read the following)

When we entered our room we found a condom next to our bed and noticed that the bed had been used....
Nice!
Well, at least they have used a condom we thought and were sent to a different room (without any assistance again).
The bed in this room had been used as well so we had to go downstairs once more just to be sent to yet another room. (They don;t seem to be keen on simply changing the bed sheets)

There the bed was fine, the bathroom even worse than in the other rooms and it had a dirty old carpet on the floor. The ashtray and the light stench gave away that it must have been a smoker's room at some stage.

We were tired, gave up and stayed in this room.

We were hoping to relax a bit in the pool but once we had seen this sad puddle we preferred not to.

Later we returned to the hotel from our dinner just to find bugs and a massive cockroach in the bath and the tap at the basin was constantly running.

Breakfast: Although we were the only ones there most of the stuff was gone by the time we got there, one had to go and make the hot drinks himself, the food was disgusting, all the butter was off... you get the picture.

Since we had half a day left to spend in Nairobi we asked at the reception if they could recommend anything interesting. They could not; not a single thing.
So, knowing that there is a nice giraffe and elephant orphanage (both well worth seeing but don't bother with the overpriced, sad and boring crocodile park) we asked how to get there. Again, they did not know and could only suggest to take a taxi there. A nice local happened to overhear the conversation and said that it would be hideous to do this in a cab since it would be very expensive. In the end we simply hired a cheap driver for the day since we had a few ways anyway.

Check out: We explained our frustration and stated that we were disgusted by the fact that there was the condom and the used bed in the first room and kindly asked for a discount. They refused.
I explained that I am happy to make this public. They still refused.
I paid by card and was charged an extra 5% for that.

I did not refuse hence the reason why you are reading this now.

“Functional hotel, Very Basic”

Our stay at the Lanana Mount Hotel in Nairobi was necessary, but would not repeat the experience. The hotel is located in a safe area of town, the WestLands. Our room seemed so unsecured, but nothing was missing upon our return to the room. The towels and sheets were clean, the breakfast was shared with a few flies, but edible.
