“Pleasant above average high value guesthouse experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

For the money you are paying, pound for pound, Neferiti offers a great location, comfortable accommodations and an array of resources. It's proximity to the market and key sights makes it the perfect home base for Luxor. Everyone raves about the rooftop terrace but I must add that its staff is knowledgable and can assist in creating efficient itineraries without collecting unfair commissions. Would definitely stay again.

“Perfect egyptian food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We did not stay in the hotel but having seen the rooms and location, I would. Right spot for everything and the food was excellent and very good price.

Room Tip: Lovely view at the front but noisey. Cant have everything!

“Very noisy, smoke-filled and not traveller friendly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We had a room on the 2nd floor above local cafes. It was so noisy all through the night till at least 1 am. We think people played a game like dominos and repeatingly bang the dominos on the wooden board.

Although we were aware the hotel is right in the souq and want to ask for a quiet room (we did not mind not having a veiw), the staff was rather cold so we did not even try.

We were also forced to inhale second hand smoke from the cafe as the window was not sealed properly. It was a night mare.

Though the room was clean, the wardrobe was not particularly inviting so we did not use it. There was not one chair or table where we can put our bags so we have to lay our belongings on the floor.

As there was no where to sit but on the bed, the end of the bed was so worn that we slide down the end and had to struggle to stay on the bed. I am not kidding.

In the shower/toilet room, there was no where (not a hook, railing or chair) to put the towel or clothes. It was rather inconvenient as we stayed not for one night but three.

Never again.

“Good location for tourist sites”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

A budget hotel in a good location in a small arcade off the main bazaar strip, close to luxor temple you can see it easily from the front windows and the rooftop terrace). No lift, our room was on the top floor same as the terrace area where you can drink your own bought beer/wine etc but you can't buy it in the hotel (common at many Egyptian hotels).
Noisy from the street traffic and thin walls, room was adequate sized and relatively clean, although the seal between the bathroom wall and bedroom was so flimsy and the shower spray went directly on the wall join, not only did the bathroom flood but so did that side of our room, no frills but a good enough budget option. We didn't have breakfast here, the spread looked very average and eating at any one of the small eateries downtown with the locals was great.
Tip - be warned about the horse and carriage scams, they offer to take 5 or 10 pound, they are reported to take you to a different part of the city then tell you that you need to pay more to get back. Make sure you negotiate the price and route/sights you want to see in advance. The poor horses look like they dont get fed enough and lots have their ribs sticking out, their drivers always ask you for an extra tip after you pay for your ride so that they can feed their horse, it's a cheap scam but you often feel sorry for the horse anyway.

“Brilliant place to stay in Luxor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Luxor hotels are pretty complicated - you've either got total luxury (and sizeable price tag) a la Sofitel, Hilton etc; hotels for package tours, or very, very low budget... Nefertiti is a great choice - excellent location, clean facilities, good tour provision (if you want that) and really, really friendly staff. I stayed here for a week and the staff truly made my stay - so helpful, friendly and warm - willing to help with any questions at all, and advise on any aspect of Luxor.

The roof terrace is lovely - space to sunbathe right at the top, sit and drink fresh juice, or have lunch/dinner. The food is very good too actually - freshly prepared, typically Egyptian fare (as well as a few European choices such as club sandwiches/pizzas) and very well-priced indeed.

Cannot recommend this one highly enough - I've never reviewed anywhere on TripAdvisor (although I do travel quite a bit), but just had to share my brilliant experience!

PS If you're looking for a day at the pool - the Hilton in Karnak allows non-residents to use facilities for a fee.
